1. Davis Cup: Serbia beat India 3-2 in World Group play-off
India's agonising wait to return to the World Group continued as the hosts lost 2-3 to Serbia in the rain-hit playoff tie after Yuki Bhambri surrendered tamely in the decisive fifth rubber against Filip Karjinovic here on Monday.
Krajinovic turned out to be a hero for the Serbians with his 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win as the 2010 champions reclaimed their place in the World Group.
The result means that India will now again fight it out in Asia/Oceania zone in the 2015 season. The last time India had made it to the World Group was in 2011, interestingly losing to Serbia in the first round.

2. Raghuram Rajan: Right time to deregulate diesel
The Government must take advantage of falling global crude oil prices and deregulate diesel, said RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan said at a conference today.
Brent crude, a benchmark for Asian and Indian buyers, has fallen 14 per cent since June to $96.38 per barrel.
The NDA government has continued with the previous UPA regime policy of raising diesel rates by up to 50 paise a litre every month to bridge the gap between cost and retail prices.
"Lower crude oil prices are helping consuming countries like us. Typically a lower oil price means a lower CAD, lower oil subsidies and lower inflation. We need to seize this moment to eliminate diesel subsidies completely. We should take this moment to eliminate diesel subsidies as soon as possible," Rajan told a banking conclave in Mumbai.

3. KK Paul sworn in as Manipur Governor

Meghalaya Governor K K Paul was today sworn in as acting Governor of Manipur.
Manipur Chief Justice Laxmi Kant Mahapatra administered the oath of office and secrecy to Paul during a function at Raj Bhavan, which was attended by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, his cabinet colleagues and high civil and police officials.
Raj Bhavan sources said Paul “will act as Governor of Manipur till the new appointment was made.” The outgoing Governor V K Duggal was given a warm send-off by the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues yesterday, sources added.

4. Prannoy wins Indonesian Masters
Young Indian shuttler H.S. Prannoy clinched the maiden title of
his career after winning the $1,25,000 Indonesian Masters Grand Prix Gold, following his straight-game victory over local favourite Firman Abdul Kholik in the final here on Sunday.
In a 43-minute battle, fifth seed Prannoy, who finished runner-up at the $50,000 Vietnam Grand Prix in Ho Chi Minh City last week, got the better of qualifier Firman 21-11, 22-20.
The 22-year-old Prannoy dished out a dominating performance in the opening game as he opened up a 6-2 lead early on and then kept increasing the distance. He then reeled off five straight points to take the game.

5. Infinity Retail ties up with Snapdeal to launch itself on portal
Tata Sons-promoted Infinity Retail, which owns consumer durables and electronics chain Croma, has tied up with the country's leading online marketplace, Snapdeal.com, to launch itself on the portal.
Both the companies have called a joint press conference tomorrow to announce the same.
This is the second such tie-up from the house of India's largest diversified conglomerate with the New Delhi-based eCommerce major after its Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata picked up a stake in the portal. Last month, Tata Value Homes, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Tata Housing, entered into a first-of-its-kind, strategic and exclusive partnership with Snapdeal.com to sell residential properties.

6. Axis Bank provides e-surveillance at ATMs
 Axis Bank, India’s third largest private sector bank, today announced the launch of e-surveillance facility, a service that allows a 24x7, 365 days centrally monitored automated security of ATMs.
Under the e-surveillance facility, the ATM premises of Axis Bank will be monitored 24x7 from a centralised security operation centre. An immediate alert will be activated in case of detection of any unauthorised activity at the ATM site. In the event of any unauthorised activity at the ATM location, an immediate hooter alert will instantaneously propel a two way communication between the officials at the security operation center and the alleged intruders, through mike, speakers and CCTV system. Simultaneously, the system would also alert the local Police station and nearby on road Patrolling Officer about the incident, the bank said in a statement.

7. Kaya Skin Clinic ties up with eBay to sell products online
 Marico-promoted Kaya Skin Clinic has tied up with eBay to sell its 50-odd skincare and haircare products.
Kaya’s products are custom-developed by its dermatologists with a range of formulations. Kaya also recently launched its own e-commerce portal (shop.kayaclinic.com), while forging strategic tie-ups with other leading e-commerce giants such as Flipkart, Jabong and Snapdeal.
While services account for 80 per cent of its revenue, products account for the balance. The company said 7-8 per cent of its sales comes from e-commerce portals.

 8. August inflation eases to nearly 5-year low of 3.74%
 Declining prices of vegetable and other food articles pulled down wholesale inflation sharply to 3.74 per cent in August to a nearly five-year low.
The inflation measured on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) was at 5.19 per cent in July and 6.99 per cent in August 2013.
Inflation in the food segment witnessed a significant decline to 5.15 per cent in August as against 8.43 per cent in the previous month, according to official data released in New Delhi on Monday.
The August WPI inflation is the lowest since October 2009 when it stood at 1.8 per cent.
Vegetable prices contracted 4.88 per cent, the third continuous month of decline.
Maintaining a downward trend, the onion prices contracted by 44.7 per cent during the month under review.


9. South African insurer AllLife may enter India
AllLife, a company that provides life insurance cover to people living with HIV and diabetes in South Africa, could soon be making a foray in the Indian market.
In India, it plans to target diabetes patients.
“AllLife provides life insurance to HIV positive people in South Africa. Basically, they serve a population that previously had no access to affordable life insurance, and were seen as uninsurable” said Jim Roth, Co-Founder of LeapFrog Investments, which has put $7 million (around Rs. 40 crore) in AllLife.
