1.Sania-Cara win doubles title in Tokyo
Maintaining her rich vein of form in the current season, Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Zimbabwean partner Cara Black on Saturday bagged the women’s doubles title at the WTA Toray Pacific Open with a 6-2 7-5 victory over Spain’s Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro.
With the win, Sania and Cara have successfully defended their Tokyo Open title, which is a USD 1 million event.


2. Time names Indian architect Alok Shetty ‘leader of tomorrow’
 A 28-year-old Indian architect has been named “young leader of tomorrow” by Time magazine for his pioneering work in designing affordable flood-proof houses for slum dwellers.
Alok Shetty is among “leaders of tomorrow” who are “working hard to change their worlds today,” Time said as it named six inspirational young persons in its first class of “next generation leaders“.

3. Jitu’s gold props India on opening day of Asiad

 New shooting sensation Jitu Rai provided the first gold medal,
while Shweta Chaudhry clinched a bronze as India launched their campaign in the 17th Asian Games with two medals on the opening day of the competitions in Incheon on Saturday.
While Jitu struck gold in the 50m pistol event, Shweta’s bronze came in the 10m air pistol competition at the Ongnyeon Shooting Range in Incheon but medal aspirants Heena Sidhu and Malaika Goel turned out to be disappointments as they failed to even reach the finals.

4. Govt to work with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to promote toilet use
The Government has tied up with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to promote toilet use in the country, a statement from the Urban Development Ministry said on Friday.
To ensure universal sanitation in India with the objective of addressing sanitation-related health concerns, the Ministry of Urban Development and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have, in principle, agreed on a partnership to promote user-friendly toilets.
Bill Gates said the foundation’s core competency is research and technology promotion and would like to share it with the Government of India.

5. Banks to be careful about Jan Dhan Yojana: RBI
 The Reserve Bank on Friday warned the banks to be more careful while opening accounts under the Jan-Dhan Yojana, saying that a single individual could open multiple accounts in the lure of Rs 1 lakh insurance cover.
“There are some caveats when the banks are implementing the financial inclusion scheme under the recently launched Jan-Dhan programme,” RBI Executive Director P Vijay Bhaskar said at a CII seminar in Kolkata on Friday.
He said people could open accounts in different banks using different identity documents like PAN card, Aadhar among others in the lure of getting insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh from all the banks.

6. ‘G20 nations want Russia to attend leaders' summit’
 Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to attend the G20 leaders’ summit in November despite alarm over Russia’s actions in Ukraine with host Australia today saying it was the “emphatic” wish of member nations.
There had been question marks over whether Moscow should be invited to the high-powered forum in Brisbane with the brutal five-month conflict that has killed around 3,000 people still unresolved.
Opposition to Putin’s attendance intensified after a Malaysia Airlines plane was shot down over eastern Ukraine in July, killing all 298 onboard, including 38 Australian citizens or residents.

7. W. Bengal registers 110% growth in State Plan release
West Bengal has witnessed a 109.73 per cent increase in State Plan release till September 15 this fiscal.
According to State Finance, Commerce and Industry and IT Minister, Amit Mitra, the release has been made under various State Plan heads as well as by combining a number of central schemes such as MGNREGA, NHRM, and PMGSY.
On its own, the State has seen a 63 per cent growth in its planned expenditure. Approximately, ₹ 20,607 crore has been released under the State Plan head.
"We have seen a huge increase of 109 per cent in State Plan release. This includes various central schemes too. If we take out these Central schemes, then we have seen a 63 per cent increase," he said during the AGM of the 127th Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BNCCI) here on Saturday.

8. 'Make in India' campaign to target 10% growth in manufacturing
The 'Make in India’ campaign to be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week will aim at pushing manufacturing growth to over 10 per cent annually.
The BJP Government aims to do so through sustained measures of deregulation and delicensing of industry and making India more accessible to investors by addressing the queries and concerns on a regular basis.
“We want to get rid of the impression that India is an unfriendly country to deal with. We will aim to make the going as easy for investors as possible,” an official from the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) said.
The DIPP has identified 3,000 companies from 30 countries spread across 10 sectors which it would target for greater investments through sustained dialogue as part of the campaign, a Government official said.
The sectors include automobile, pharmaceutical, food processing, IT, electronics and textiles.
The campaign, to be launched on September 25, will see participation from CEOs from big companies, including Japanese and Korean. 

9. GST implementation from April 2016 will be feasible: Revenue Secy
 As negotiations with States on GST enter a critical stage, the Centre is looking forward to implementation of the new indirect tax regime from April 1, 2016.
“The deadline for actual implementation of GST from April 1, 2016, would be feasible. It all depends on how quickly we are able to reach a consensus on critical issues,” Revenue Secretary Shakti Kanta Das said at an event here
