1.G.K. Reddy Award for Vinod MehtaEminent journalist and Editorial Chairman of Outlook group Vinod Mehta has been chosen for the G.K. Reddy Memorial Award 2014.
The award, given for outstanding contribution to journalism, was founded by Member of Parliament and Chairman of the TSR Foundation, T. Subbarami Reddy. It carries a cash award of Rs. 5 lakh, a gold medal and a citation and will be presented at a function in New Delhi in December

2.Vahanvati passes away
The former Attorney-General of India G.E. Vahanvati died in
 Mumbai on Tuesday following a heart attack.He was 65.
Mr. Vahanvati was appointed as the 13th AG from June 2009 for a three-year term.
Prior to his appointment as the top law officer, he had served as the Solicitor-General of India between June 20, 2004 and June 7, 2009. He was earlier the Advocate General of Maharashtra.

 3. Former Foreign Secretary A.P. Venkateswaran passes away
Former Foreign Secretary A.P. Venkateswaran (85) passed away at a private hospital here on Tuesday afternoon.He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
Mr. Venkateswaran was chairman of the Asia Centre, which is engaged in organising interaction and discussions on issues pertaining to Asian countries. He had made headlines when he resigned from his post in January 1987, after he was snubbed by the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

4. Modi flags off TCS training initiative in Japan
n a bid to foster understanding between Indian and Japanese IT professionals, Tata Consultancy Services has started the TCS Japan Technology and Culture Academy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently on a state visit to Japan, inaugurated the Academy on Tuesday in Tokyo.
Modi also flagged off the first batch of 48 trainees from TCS’ Japan unit who will undergo training for six to eight weeks at various locations in India.

5. Priyanka, Sonakshi now co-brand ambassadors of Dabur Amla
India’s biggest amla-based hair oil maker Dabur India Ltd (DIL) has roped in Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha as co-brand ambassador of its flagship Dabur Amla hair oil, along with the existing ambassador Priyanka Chopra, the company announced

6. TripAdvisor appoints Angie Vaux
Travel portal TripAdvisor has announced the appointment of Angie Vaux as Commercial Director, Asia Pacific, TripAdvisor for Business. Vaux will be responsible for growing the portal’s presence in Asia-Pacific, overseeing regional sales team and delivering on the company’s commitment to help hotels and B&Bs (Bed & Breakfast) attract more travellers and succeed in the online marketplace, a statement from the company said.

7. Smart city plan to be finalised soon: Govt
 The framework for the NDA Government’s stated goal of developing 100 smart cities will soon be finalised and the plan would allow plenty of opportunity for participation to the private sector, the Centre said on Wednesday.
“We are in the process of finalising the framework for smart cities. It is a huge exercise and all possible pitfalls, effects and other factors are being considered before announcement of the policy,” Urban Development Secretary Shankar Aggarwal said at an event in New Delhi. 

8. Djokovic to play Davis Cup tie in India
 World No.1 Novak Djokovic will lead Serbia against India in the Davis Cup World Group playoff here Sep 12-14, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) confirmed on its website Tuesday.
Dusan Lajovic, Filip Krajinovic and Nenad Zimonjic complete the line-up for Serbia, the 2010 champions. Serbia will be without Janko Tipsarevic, a former top-10 player, who is recovering from a foot surgery.

9. India slips to 71st rank in global competitiveness list
Weighed down by challenging economic conditions for most part of the past year, India has slipped to 71st position - the lowest among BRICS countries - in an annual global competitiveness list, with Switzerland claiming the top spot.
The annual list, released on Wednesday by Geneva-based World Economic Forum (WEF), comes at a time when the new Indian government has completed 100 days in power and has promised further steps to revive its economy and the ease of doing business in the country. 


10. Pranab releases commemorative stamps on 8 music greats
 President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday released a set of eight commemorative postage stamps featuring renowned Indian classical musicians at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The set brought out by the Postal Department features icons form the world of Indian classical music: Pandit Ravi Shankar, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, DK Pattammal, Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur, Gangubai Hangal, Pandit Kumar Gandharva, Ustad Vilayat Khan and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Press Secretary to the President, Venu Rajamony said.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that as we pay tribute to eight of the greatest music maestros of contemporary India, we celebrate their life and work and their matchless legacy.
