1.Tony Abbott in India, nuke deal likely on agenda
 Amid indications that a nuclear deal could be in the offing, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott arrived in Mumbai this morning on a two-day India visit during which the two countries would look at ways to deepen strategic ties and strengthen two-way trade and commerce.
Mr. Abbott landed in the financial capital, his first port of call, on a day-long visit during which he will interact with business leaders and select Indian CEOs.

2.Di Maria spurs Argentina to 4-2 win over Germany in Cup final rematch
A brilliant performance from Angel Di Maria spurred Argentina to a crushing 4-2 international friendly win over world champions Germany on Wednesday in an entertaining rematch of July's World Cup final.
3. AP's new capital to be located around Vijayawada
 The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, today announced that a new capital city for the State would be located around Vijayawada.
Making a statement in the Legislative Assembly today, he said the State would go for a decentralised development with three mega cities and 14 smart cities.


4. India set to emerge as world’s largest cotton grower

 India is set challenge China’s numero uno position in world cotton production. Thanks to genetically modified or BT cotton, India’s cotton sowing has surged to record high led by sharp increase in cotton acreage in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
As per the latest data available from government departments and industry sources, total cotton sowing in the country stood at 122.5 lakh hectares this year (2014-15) against about 115 lakh hectares last year (2013-14). Farmer and trader sources peg India's cotton production at 403 lakh bales this year.
India's biggest cotton producer, Gujarat's data on September 1 showed cotton sowing in the State has crossed 30 lakh hectares this kharif season against the three years average of 27.17 lakh hectares, showing an increase of 10.5 per cent.

5. Ex-CJI Sathasivam appointed Kerala governor
Amid protests from political and legal quarters, former Chief Justice of India, P Sathasivam, 65, got appointed as Kerala governor on Wednesday, becoming the first ex-CJI in a gubernatorial post.
Even as the Congress party and legal fraternity continued to criticize the move, Sathasivam himself came out to defend his new position: “If I say no to this job, I have to do farming in my village. As a former CJI I can have good relations with the state and the Centre and it will benefit the people of Kerala.”

6. INS Sumitra commissioned by Navy chief
 The Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R.K. Dhowan today said that India will concentrate on manufacturing naval ships with indigenous technology for its best suited purposes to monitor the Indian coasts.

7. Green Building Congress announces three new rating systems
 The Indian Green Building Council today announced three rating systems to cover schools, metro rail projects and new buildings.
Announcing the launching of the three systems at the CII Green Building Congress 2014, Prem C Jain, Chairman of IGBC, said the New Building Rating System comes in the backdrop of IGBC and US Green Building Council parting ways on the Leed certification programme.

9. Nishikori ends Japan's 96-year wait for US Open semifinal spot
Kei Nishikori became the first Japanese man for almost a century to reach the US Open semifinals on Wednesday after securing an epic 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (9/7), 6-7 (5/7), 6-4 win over Stan Wawrinka.
Nishikori, the 24-year-old 10th seed, triumphed in 4 hours 15 minutes, his second marathon clash after needing 4 hours 19 minutes to get past Milos Raonic in the previous round.
Nishikori will face either world number one Novak Djokovic or Andy Murray, both former champions, on Saturday for a place in Monday's championship match.

10. India field unchanged hockey squad for Asian Games

India today named an unchanged side for the men’s hockey competition at the upcoming Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea as the selectors reposed faith on the 16-member squad that won the silver medal in this year’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Hockey India today named the 16-member squad to be led by star midfielder Sardar Singh in the 17th Asian Games to be held from September 19 to October 4.
