1.India’s global ranking in favouritism shown by government officials to powerful corporates has bettered sharply from 94th in the last year to 49th place this year. The Rank nevertheless, still remains far below other key economies. As per a yearly study by the World Economic Forum (WEF), India’s ranking has also bettered notably in terms of public trust in politicians.
Qatar ranked 1st and is followed by New Zealand, Singapore, Finland, UAE, the Netherlands, Japan, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland in top 10.

2 Vijay Mallaya Declared as Wilful defaulter by United bank of India.Vijay Mallya is the chairman of United Breweries, producer of India’s best-selling beer brand Kingfisher. He is also the chairman of United Spirits, now controlled by Diageo.

3. Announcing the Jammu and Kashmir floods as national level disaster, PM Modi declared an extra Rs 1,000 Crore as distinct aid for flood relief and rehabilitation. The state govt is battling worst flood in the last 50 years.

4. India’s nuclear power programme reached a fresh milestone after Unit 5 of the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station (RAPS), become the 2nd longest running reactor in the world by being in operation for 765 days nonstop.
Unit 7 of Canada’s Pickering nuclear plant holds the world record of running the largest operating plant that ran continuously for 894 days.

5. Sania Mirza won US Open mixed doubles title with her new partner Bruno Soares (Brazil). The pair defeated the combination of Abigail Spears (US) and Santiago Gonzalez (Mexico) 6-1, 2-6, 11-9 in an exciting mixed doubles final.

6. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has declared the list of members and chairpersons for 24 DRSCs (Department Related Standing Committees) of Parliament. While the ruling BJP grabbed 11 chairperson posts of these panels, the Congress will chair 5, including the coveted Committee on Finance.
The Trinamool Congress will chair two panels. Members of Bahujan Samaj Party, Telugu Desam Party, Biju Janata Dal, Janata Dal (United), Shiv Sena and the AIADMK will chair one panel each

7. A new Road Traffic Act will be brought in the winter session of Parliament this year, which will be at par with international Acts in the Road Sector, this was held by the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari. He held that the prevailing Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 has outlasted its usefulness and in the fast changing traffic situation, a holistic Act is desirable

8. Oldest surviving Test cricketer, South African fast bowler Norman Gordon (103), passed away after a year long illness due to renal complications. Gordon played 5 Tests against England in 1939 taking 20 wickets in all before World War cut short his international career.

9.Nalanda University reopens in Bihar. Approximately 800 years after the ancient education institution was ruined, on September 1, 2014, Nalanda University (also known as University of Nalanda), in Bihar’s Rajgir district, commenced its first academic session. Nalanda is a Central University in Rajgir, about 55 miles south east of Patna, near Nalanda, Bihar, India. The university is envisioned to re-establish the older Nalanda University which was one of the oldest ancient higher-learning institutions. Nobel Laureate Dr. Amartya Sen is the Chancellor of the University.

10.BSNL and MTNL to be merged by July 2015. In its presentation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Department of Telecommunications(DoT), Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, has set a cutoff date: July 31, 2015, for closing the much debated merger of stressed state-run telecom companies, BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd) and MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd).
MTNL runs telecom services in Delhi and Mumbai while BSNL offers telecom coverage in the rest of India.

11.  India down to 71st position in an yearly Global Competitiveness List 2014-15, released by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum (WEF). India has the lowest position amongst the 5 BRICS Nations. Switzerland is the most competitive economy.

12. RBI has asked banks to set up a timeline for clearance of loan proposals, but did not assign a specific time frame for the same.
RBI in its notification held that the Banks should openly delineate the process for disposal of loan proposals, with suitable timelines, and put in place an appropriate monitoring method for reviewing applications awaiting beyond the specified period.

13. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his maiden bilateral visit outside the Indian subcontinent to Japan, inked the cultural agreement of Varanasi-Kyoto which spotlights on how to preserve heritage while building Smart Cities.
PM Modi visited Kyoto the ‘smart city’ of Japan, to understand the experiment there bearing in mind that he intends to build 100 smart cities in India. Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan, had been included in Modi’s schedule as it “dovetails into Modi’s emphasis on rejuvenation of cities while preserving their cultural heritage.”

14. Eminent journalist and Editorial Chairman of Outlook group Vinod Mehta has been chosen for the G.K. Reddy Memorial Award 2014.

The book has been co—authored by renowned cricket historian and media personality Boria Majumdar.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday issued revised and final guidelines for raising non-equity regulatory capital instruments by banks under the stringent Basel III framework under which lenders can issue Tier-2 capital with a minimum original maturity of five years as against 10 years now
