The Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation for September came in at 2.38 per cent, much lower than 3.74 per cent recorded in the previous month.
This cooling down of WPI inflation was largely led by a sharp fall in food articles and fuel prices.
The downtrend in global commodity prices, especially global crude oil, had a salutary effect on WPI print for September.
Meanwhile, the July WPI print has been revised upwards to 5.41 per cent from 5.19 per cent.
Food article inflation for September 2014 came in at 3.52 per cent, much lower than 5.15 per cent in the previous month.
2. PM announces Rs. 1,000 cr immediate assistance for cyclone-hit AP

afternoon an immediate assistance of Rs. 1,000 crore to the Andhra Pradesh Government in view of the havoc wrought by cyclone Hudhud in Visakhapatnam and other districts.
The Prime Minister arrived here by a special flight at around 1.30 p.m. after conducting an aerial survey of some of the cyclone-hit areas in the district. He was received at the airport by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Ministers M Venkaiah Naidu and Ashok Gajapati Raju, and State Governor Narasimhan.
He saw the damage at the airport and went by road to the collector's office where he reviewed the relief operations along with the Chief Minister and Union Ministers. He later told the reporters that the Union Government would stand by the AP Government and the people of the city in the hour of crisis.
Modi commended the State Government for using the modern technology in minimising the losses and both the Union Government and the State Government worked in tandem to reduce the loss of life. He also praised the courage and resilience of the public of Visakhapatnam and expressed confidence that the city would be back to normal soon.
He said he had announced in the US that Visakhapatnam would be made a smart city and in spite of the temporary setback, there was no doubt Vizag would develop into a great city.

An Indian police inspector has been named recipient of a prestigious international female peacekeeper award by the UN's police division for her "exceptional achievements" in her duty with the UN mission in Afghanistan, including her efforts towards helping victims of sexual and gender-based violence.
Inspector Shakti Devi of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, currently deployed in the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), has been awarded the International Female Police Peacekeeper Award 2014.

Pakistan’s latest efforts seeking U.N. intervention on the Kashmir issue have failed to draw any new response from the world body which reiterated that India and Pakistan need to resolve all differences through dialogue to find a long-term solution to the dispute.
Sartaj Aziz, adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on national security and foreign affairs, had written to U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the recent border tension with India and sought the U.N.’s intervention, stepping up its attempts to internationalise the Kashmir issue.
In the letter to Mr. Ban, Mr. Aziz said Pakistan believes the U.N. has an important role to play in promoting the objective of peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue, including through his “good offices”.
Mr. Ban’s deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq, when asked to comment on the letter seeking Mr. Ban’s intervention and his viewpoint on the issue, told reporters on Monday he would refer to a statement that was issued last week by Mr. Ban’s spokesperson in which the U.N. chief encouraged India and Pakistan to resolve all differences through dialogue and engage constructively to find a long-term solution for peace and stability in Kashmir.

9. Lok Sabha MP Kapil Krishna Thakur died
Lok Sabha MP Kapil Krishna Thakur died in Kolkata following a lung failure. He was 73.
He was the elder son of Binapani Debi Thakurani (Baroma), the leader of Matua community.
10. Lyricist Sameer honoured with Kishore Kumar Award for 2012-13
Noted lyricist Sameer was honoured with the National Kishore Kumar Award for 2012-13. He was awarded during a function at the legendary singer's birth place Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh.
The award was handed over to Sameer by Madhya Pradesh Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah.
The Jury that selected Sameer for the award included noted writer Saleem Khan, actor director Satish Kaushik, noted playback singer Anuradha Paudwal, lyricist Ibrahim Ashk and film critique Jaiprakash Choukse.
11. UN ignores Pakistan bid to seek intervention on Kashmir
Pakistan’s latest efforts seeking U.N. intervention on the Kashmir issue have failed to draw any new response from the world body which reiterated that India and Pakistan need to resolve all differences through dialogue to find a long-term solution to the dispute.
Sartaj Aziz, adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on national security and foreign affairs, had written to U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the recent border tension with India and sought the U.N.’s intervention, stepping up its attempts to internationalise the Kashmir issue.
In the letter to Mr. Ban, Mr. Aziz said Pakistan believes the U.N. has an important role to play in promoting the objective of peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue, including through his “good offices”.
Mr. Ban’s deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq, when asked to comment on the letter seeking Mr. Ban’s intervention and his viewpoint on the issue, told reporters on Monday he would refer to a statement that was issued last week by Mr. Ban’s spokesperson in which the U.N. chief encouraged India and Pakistan to resolve all differences through dialogue and engage constructively to find a long-term solution for peace and stability in Kashmir.
