Reserve Bank of Insia governor Raghuram Rajan has been conferred with the Best Central Bank Governor award for 2014 by Euromoney magazine.
Euromoney said Raghuram Rajan’s tough monetary medicine combatted the storm ravaging the deficit-ridden economy in the recent emerging market crisis.
“Now, he is battling vested interests to arouse a sleepy financial system for over one billion people... Remarkably, the internationally-renowned economist, who earned acclaim for his warnings in 2005 of an upcoming global crisis of sorts, has, for the past year been true to his word,” Euromoney said.
Mr. Rajan received Euromoney’s Central Bank Governor of the Year Award 2014 in Washington on October 10, the RBI said in a release on Wednesday.
2. Australian author Richard Flanagan won 2014 Man Booker Prize
Australian author Richard Flanagan on 14 October 2014 won the 50000 pounds Man Booker Prize for his wartime novel The Narrow Road to the Deep North. His name was announced as the winner at London’s Guildhall and was presented the prize by The Duchess of Cornwall.
Flanagan is the third Australian to win the prize after Thomas Keneally and Peter Carey. Thomas Keneally's Schindler's Ark won in 1982 while Peter Carey won for Oscar and Lucinda (1988) and The True History of the Kelly Gang (2001).

With an investment of Rs. 450 crore, the plant would employ more than 400 people, the company said, adding that it would source about 80 per cent of its ingredients, locally. The plant is Abbott’s third manufacturing site in India, the other two being in Baddi and Goa.
The Jhagadia plant will manufacture high-quality nutritional products for India, including Similac for infants; PediaSure - a toddler nutrition brands; Ensure for adult nutrition; Mama’s Best for expectant and breastfeeding moms and Glucerna, nutrition for people with diabetes.

The ban came in the form of Rule 135-B that states no cosmetic that has been tested on animals after the commencement of Drugs and Cosmetics (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2014 shall be imported into the country. The ban will come into effect on 13 November 2014.
