Awards and Honors - September to November

1. Former Indian cricket captain Dilip Vengsarkar  received the prestigious BCCI-instituted Colonel C K Nayudu Lifetime achievement award. He was conferred with the award for his contribution to Indian cricket.
2. Tamil superstar Rajinikanth was  honoured with the centenary award for Indian Film Personality of the year 2014 at the 45th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
3. Chintan, a non-government organisation was conferred the Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award, 2014 .
The award was given for cleaning the New Delhi railway station. Chintan is a non-government organisation working with waste pickers.

4. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)  was chosen for the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2014. The award will be given to ISRO for its contribution in strengthening international cooperation in peaceful use of outer space.
5. Neha Gupta was awarded with the prestigious International Children’s Peace Prize 2014. Neha, an 18-year-old Indian American from Philadelphia was awarded for her work to help orphans in India and other vulnerable children. Neha became the first ever American to be awarded with the prize.
6. Veteran classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj was  conferred with the Sumitra Charat Ram Award 2014 for Lifetime Achievement.
Pandit Jasraj joined the list of eminent personalities who were honoured with the award earlier including Pt Birju Maharaj, Kishori Amonkar and Mayadhar Raut.
7. The Assam government  presented the first state bravery award to Gunjan Sarma in Guwahati.
15 year old Gunjan, a resident of Sivsagar district was awarded with Assam’s first ever bravery award for saving lives of 10 school children who were taken hostage by a gunman on 4 December 2013.
8. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Chairman CS Verma  was  conferred with the IIM- JRD Tata Award for Excellence in Corporate leadership in Metallurgical Industries for the year 2014.
9. Radio Kashmir Jammu won prestigious Gandhian Philosophy and Public Service Broadcasting award 2014 for its programme Jeevan Rekha. Jeevan Rekha is a programme based on the live broadcasts done in the wake of flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir by Radio Kashmir Jammu.
10. President Pranab Mukherjee conferred the 49th Jnanpith Award on eminent Hindi poet Kedarnath Singh at a function at Balyogi Auditorium, Parliament Library Building in New Delhi.
11. The Darjeeling Zoo or the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park was  selected for the prestigious International Award The Earth Heroes Award 2014. It has become the 1st zoo in India.Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park  is largest high altitude zoo of India. It is located in West Bengal.
12. The President of India Pranab Mukherjee  presented the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) Meritorious Awards at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

13. The Hockey India chief Narinder Batra  was awarded the prestigious President's Award by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) at Morocco.
14. Former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh received the Japan’s top national award The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers 2014. He was awarded for his contribution to the enhancement of relations and promotion of friendship between Japan and India for about 35 years. Manmohan Singh became the first Indian to receive this rare honour.
15. Malala Yousafzai won the 2014 World’s Children Prize  after a global vote involving millions of children. She received the prize at a ceremony in Mariestad near Stockholm.
16. Sir Schindler Nicholas Winton  was awarded the Order of the White Lion of Czech Republic by the President Milos Zeman. The Order of the White Lion is the highest civilian honour of the Czech Republic.
17. The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes for the year 2014 was announced . The winners include among others, an Indian American teenager Kiran Sridhar. He is one of the 25 recipients of The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes for 2014.
18. Ashwika Kapur  became the first Indian woman to win prestigious Wildscreen Panda Award. She won the coveted wildlife photography award in best newcomer category for her film, Sirocco - how a dud became a stud.
19. Sahil Doshi, an Indian-American studentwon the 2014 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. He was awarded for his innovative design of an eco-friendly battery that could help lower harmful greenhouse gases.
20. Malala Yousafzai was conferred with the 2014 Liberty Medal   at the National Constitution Centre in Philadelphia.
21. Congolese gynaecologist Denis Mukwege Mukengere  won the prestigious Sakharov human rights prize 2014. He was awarded for his efforts in helping thousands of gang rape victims in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
22. The UK government  announced the inaugural Dadabhai Naoroji Awards to honour individuals who have worked to strengthen the UK-India relationship over the years.
The three winners included UK India Business Council chair Patricia Hewitt in the commerce category, Dame Asha Khemka for services in the field of education and actor Madhav Sharma for culture.
23. Dr. Raghuram Rajan, Governor of Reserve Bank of India  was conferred with Euromoney’s Central Bank Governor of the Year Award 2014 in Washington.
24. Indian-origin Singaporean poet and writer KTM Iqbal was named for the 2014 Cultural Medallion, the highest cultural award of Singapore. He will be awarded by the Tony Tan, the President of Singapore.
25. An eminent Indian scientist Dr Sanjaya Rajaram  received the World Food Prize 2014 for his scientific research that led to a prodigious increase in world wheat production by more than 200 million tons building upon the successes of the Green Revolution.
26. Australian author Richard Flanagan won the 50000 pounds Man Booker Prize for his wartime novel The Narrow Road to the Deep North.
27. All India National Unity Council  honoured poet-diplomat Abhay K with Asia-Pacific Excellence Award.
28. Noted lyricist Sameer  was honoured with the National Kishore Kumar Award for 2012-13. He was awarded during a function at the legendary singer's birth place Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh.
29. Museum of Modern Art in New York  announced to honour the Academy award winning Mexican Director Alfonso Cuaron. He will be honoured at an annual Film Benefit gala scheduled to be held on 10 November 2014 in New York.
30. Anoop Jain  won 2014 Waislitz Global Citizen Award. He was awarded for his exemplified values of a Global Citizen through his work in founding Humanure Power (HP) in Bihar in 2011 that builds community sanitation facilities in rural India.
31. Vinod Mehta, eminent journalist and Editorial Chairman of Outlook group, was selected for G K Reddy Memorial Award 2014
32. The President of India Pranab Mukherjee presented the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award 2014 for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management to Dr Apathukatha Sivathanu Pillai at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
33. Saiyid Hamid was conferred with Sir Ross Masood Lifetime Achievement Award 2014 for Excellence in Leadership, Education, community & Public Service
34. Former New York Mayor and philanthropist billionaire Michael Rubens Bloomberg  was granted an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in Britain.
35. Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan received Global Diversity Award 2014 at the Britain’s House of Commons
36. US actor and singer Harry Belafonte was named for  honorary Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Oscar Award
37. Sukinda Chromite Mine of the Tata Steel in Odisha won the Asian Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Leadership Award. The award was presented by World CSR Congress at Dubai, UAE.
38. Former U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden and Alan Rusbridger, editor of The Guardian  won Right Livelihood Award. The award was shared between the two.
39. Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Steve Waugh of Australia were selected as Bradman Honouree 2014
40. Noted writer and filmmaker Madathil Thekkepaattu (MT) Vasudevan Nair was selected for the JC Daniel Award for lifetime achievement for the year 2013.
41. Hindi-language feature film Liar's Dice  was selected for India’s official entry in the 2015 Oscars Awards. The film is directed by Geethu Mohandas
42. Govind Mishra, the renowned Hindi author was given the Saraswati Samman in New Delhi for his novel Dhool Paudhon Par that was published in 2008.
43. Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) CMD Madhusudan was one of the awardees who was honoured with the prestigious Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Shield for the Best Hindi Implementation in the organisation.
44. The World Health Organisation (WHO) honoured Bangladesh and Timor-Leste with South East Asia Regional Award for Excellence in Public Health.
45. Indian institutions Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) and National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS)  awarded Doctor Honoris Causa to FAO Director-General Jose Graziano da Silva.
46. Court, an Indian movie written and directed by Indian writer Chaitanya Tamhane, won the Lion of the Future – Luigi De Laurentiis award for a Debut Feature at the 71st Venice Film Festival.
47. recipient of Saakshar Bharat National Award 2014 was G.S.R. K.R. Vijaykumar, the District collector of Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh.
48. Dr. Kamal Bawa, an Indian Scientist,  won the MIDORI Prize in Biodiversity 2014. Bawa was honoured for his research that included climate change in the Himalayas.
49. China  awarded China Book Award to JNU professor Priyadarsi Mukherji.
Priyadarsi Mukherji was honoured in recognition of his long-term contribution to the translation and publication of Chinese works.
50. UNESCO Asia‐Pacific Awards 2014 for Cultural Heritage Conservation were announced in Bangkok .  Esplanade House & Shri Sakhargad Nivasini Devi Temple Complex bagged the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards from India.
51. Mrunalinidevi Puar, Chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University was conferred with the Best Manager award at the Oxford Summit of Leaders (Science and Education) in UK.
52. Hockey Player Manpreet Singh on 31 August 2014 named Junior Men Player of the Year by Asian Hockey Federation.
53. The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology consists of a citation, a plaque and a cash prize of 5 lakh rupees. The selected awardees in different fields are-

The 2014 Awardees are:

•    Hu Shuli: She is a Chinese investigative journalist whose work has led to the ouster of corrupt officials. She is the founder and former editor of Caijing a business magazine famed for its groundbreaking investigative reporting that has had a profound impact on China.

•    Saur Marlina Manurung: She is being recognized for her ennobling passion to protect and improve the lives of Indonesia’s forest people, and her energizing leadership of volunteers in SOKOLA’s customized education program. She put up a Jungle School program for children of Indonesia’s Orang Rimba, or forest people.

•    Omara Khan Masoudi from Afghanistan:  He is being recognized for his courage, labor, and leadership in protecting Afghan cultural heritage. Masoudi was awarded for his courage in protecting Afghan cultural heritage. At great risk to his life, the deputy director of the National Museum of Afghanistan in Kabul led his colleagues in moving some of the museum’s most precious objects to safety during the Taliban’s assault on his country’s cultural treasures in the 1990s.

•    The Citizens Foundation from Pakistan:  It is a non-profit organisation (NGO) in Pakistan founded by six business leaders. It was recognized for building 1000 schools over hundreds of cities and towns in the country with the world’s second highest number of children who are out of school.
•    Wang Canfa from China:  Wang Canfa founded the Center for Legal Assistance to Pollution Victims, which has offered free legal services to thousands of people and provided environmental law training to lawyers and others.

•    Randy Halasan for Emergent Leadership from the Philippines:  He was chosen for the award for serving the indigenous Matigsalug tribe. He put in huge efforts in teaching the children of the Matigsalug tribe in one of the remotest mountain villages in Mindanao.

Wang Canfa:  He is a Chinese Professor who founded the Center for Legal Assistance to Pollution Victims, which has provided free legal services to thousands of people and imparted environmental law training to lawyers and others.

11. The Darjeeling Zoo or the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park was  selected for the prestigious International Award The Earth Heroes Award 2014. It has become the 1st zoo in India.Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park  is largest high altitude zoo of India. It is located in West Bengal.
12. The President of India Pranab Mukherjee  presented the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) Meritorious Awards at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

13. The Hockey India chief Narinder Batra  was awarded the prestigious President's Award by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) at Morocco.
14. Former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh received the Japan’s top national award The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers 2014. He was awarded for his contribution to the enhancement of relations and promotion of friendship between Japan and India for about 35 years. Manmohan Singh became the first Indian to receive this rare honour.
15. Malala Yousafzai won the 2014 World’s Children Prize  after a global vote involving millions of children. She received the prize at a ceremony in Mariestad near Stockholm.
16. Sir Schindler Nicholas Winton  was awarded the Order of the White Lion of Czech Republic by the President Milos Zeman. The Order of the White Lion is the highest civilian honour of the Czech Republic.
17. The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes for the year 2014 was announced . The winners include among others, an Indian American teenager Kiran Sridhar. He is one of the 25 recipients of The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes for 2014.
18. Ashwika Kapur  became the first Indian woman to win prestigious Wildscreen Panda Award. She won the coveted wildlife photography award in best newcomer category for her film, Sirocco - how a dud became a stud.
19. Sahil Doshi, an Indian-American studentwon the 2014 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. He was awarded for his innovative design of an eco-friendly battery that could help lower harmful greenhouse gases.
20. Malala Yousafzai was conferred with the 2014 Liberty Medal   at the National Constitution Centre in Philadelphia.
21. Congolese gynaecologist Denis Mukwege Mukengere  won the prestigious Sakharov human rights prize 2014. He was awarded for his efforts in helping thousands of gang rape victims in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
22. The UK government  announced the inaugural Dadabhai Naoroji Awards to honour individuals who have worked to strengthen the UK-India relationship over the years.
The three winners included UK India Business Council chair Patricia Hewitt in the commerce category, Dame Asha Khemka for services in the field of education and actor Madhav Sharma for culture.
23. Dr. Raghuram Rajan, Governor of Reserve Bank of India  was conferred with Euromoney’s Central Bank Governor of the Year Award 2014 in Washington.
24. Indian-origin Singaporean poet and writer KTM Iqbal was named for the 2014 Cultural Medallion, the highest cultural award of Singapore. He will be awarded by the Tony Tan, the President of Singapore.
25. An eminent Indian scientist Dr Sanjaya Rajaram  received the World Food Prize 2014 for his scientific research that led to a prodigious increase in world wheat production by more than 200 million tons building upon the successes of the Green Revolution.
26. Australian author Richard Flanagan won the 50000 pounds Man Booker Prize for his wartime novel The Narrow Road to the Deep North.
27. All India National Unity Council  honoured poet-diplomat Abhay K with Asia-Pacific Excellence Award.
28. Noted lyricist Sameer  was honoured with the National Kishore Kumar Award for 2012-13. He was awarded during a function at the legendary singer's birth place Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh.
29. Museum of Modern Art in New York  announced to honour the Academy award winning Mexican Director Alfonso Cuaron. He will be honoured at an annual Film Benefit gala scheduled to be held on 10 November 2014 in New York.
30. Anoop Jain  won 2014 Waislitz Global Citizen Award. He was awarded for his exemplified values of a Global Citizen through his work in founding Humanure Power (HP) in Bihar in 2011 that builds community sanitation facilities in rural India.
31. Vinod Mehta, eminent journalist and Editorial Chairman of Outlook group, was selected for G K Reddy Memorial Award 2014

The 2014 Awardees are:

•    Hu Shuli: She is a Chinese investigative journalist whose work has led to the ouster of corrupt officials. She is the founder and former editor of Caijing a business magazine famed for its groundbreaking investigative reporting that has had a profound impact on China.

•    Saur Marlina Manurung: She is being recognized for her ennobling passion to protect and improve the lives of Indonesia’s forest people, and her energizing leadership of volunteers in SOKOLA’s customized education program. She put up a Jungle School program for children of Indonesia’s Orang Rimba, or forest people.

•    Omara Khan Masoudi from Afghanistan:  He is being recognized for his courage, labor, and leadership in protecting Afghan cultural heritage. Masoudi was awarded for his courage in protecting Afghan cultural heritage. At great risk to his life, the deputy director of the National Museum of Afghanistan in Kabul led his colleagues in moving some of the museum’s most precious objects to safety during the Taliban’s assault on his country’s cultural treasures in the 1990s.

•    The Citizens Foundation from Pakistan:  It is a non-profit organisation (NGO) in Pakistan founded by six business leaders. It was recognized for building 1000 schools over hundreds of cities and towns in the country with the world’s second highest number of children who are out of school.
•    Wang Canfa from China:  Wang Canfa founded the Center for Legal Assistance to Pollution Victims, which has offered free legal services to thousands of people and provided environmental law training to lawyers and others.

•    Randy Halasan for Emergent Leadership from the Philippines:  He was chosen for the award for serving the indigenous Matigsalug tribe. He put in huge efforts in teaching the children of the Matigsalug tribe in one of the remotest mountain villages in Mindanao.

Wang Canfa:  He is a Chinese Professor who founded the Center for Legal Assistance to Pollution Victims, which has provided free legal services to thousands of people and imparted environmental law training to lawyers and others.
