Physical Sciences - Srivari Chandrasekhar, Scientist G, Organic Chemistry Division, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), Hyderabad, has been awarded this prize for his contributions in the general area of synthetic organic chemistry with a special focus on the synthesis of complex molecules from natural sources.

Ravi Chopra, director of famous television (TV) show Mahabharata, died in Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai on 12 November 2014. He was 68. He was suffering from lung cancer from last few years.
He was a producer and director of Indian movies. He started his career assisting his father B R Chopra in films like, Dastaan (1972) and Dhund (1973). He also assisted his uncle Yash Chopra in Ittefaq (1969).
6. Haribhau Bagde of BJP elected as new Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly
Senior BJP legislator Haribhau Bagde was on 12 November 2014 was elected as new Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
His name was announced by Protem Speaker Jiva Pandu Gavit in the newly-constituted Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

China’s online retail giant, Alibaba made the record of earning 9.3 billion US dollars in sales on a single day. Alibaba achieved the staggering figure on Singles Day shopping event which celebrates the bachelorhood of Young single Chinese.
On this day, Alibaba shipped 278 million orders out of which 43 percent were mobile devices.
8. Amazon planning to leverage India Post network to ramp up its delivery mechanism
E-commerce giant Amazon on 11 November 2014 proposed a plan to Union Government to allow it to use new technologies such as real-time tracking and monitoring devices on the India Post network to develop a delivery mechanism based on smart logistics.
For this, Amazon India head Amit Agarwal met Union Telecom and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on 11 November 2014.
Amazon, which tied up with India Post in 2013 to use Indian postal services as a delivery channel, is aiming at leveraging an improved India Post network to ramp up its delivery mechanism to within 24 hours anywhere within the country.
9. Rajinikanth is Indian Film Personality of the Year
The Centre has named actor Rajinikanth as winner of the Centenary
Award for Indian Film Personality of the Year. This was announced by Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Minister of State, Information and Broadcasting, on Tuesday.
The Chennai-based actor would be receiving the honour at the 45th International Film Festival of India to be held in Goa from November 20 to 30. Social media was agog with excitement as fans posted messages congratulating their ‘Superstar’, as he is fondly known.
The 63-year-old actor is a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian honour which he got in 2000. He has also won a number of awards from the Tamil Nadu government.
10. PM Narendra Modi joins Instagram, gets thousands of followers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made his Instagram debut with a picture of the venue of the 25th ASEAN Summit - and notched up followers at a blistering pace.
He was welcomed on the site by his followers. There were a staggering 43,000 followers by 2 pm which kept on increasing by the second.
"Welcome to Instagram sir, wish you a great day," said one follower. Another wrote: "Happy to see the world through your eyes."
The tech-savvy prime minister has 7.79 million followers on his Twitter account @narendramodi, and 3.43 million so far on the Prime Minister's Office account of @PMOIndia.
The prime minister has been quite active on other social sites like Stumbleupon, Pinterest, Tumblr and LinkedIn. He has been sharing photos on Flickr as well, said a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.
11. Kohli joins star Ambassadors for 2015 World Cup
India’s Virat Kohli joins an elite list of star Ambassadors to provide necessary support in the build-up to the ICC 2015 World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand between February and March.
Kohli, Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson, all-rounder Shane Watson, New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum and Sri Lankan veteran Kumar Sangakkara have been appointed ambassadors for cricket’s most—anticipated event, which is now only 92 days away.
The ICC Ambassadors will add their support and considerable profile in the build-up to and during the showpiece event. The star players will also be involved in the ICC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and event promotions.
