 1. Brisbane G20 summit opens, growth on agenda
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott stressed the importance
 of global economic issues at a summit that has been dominated by the crisis in Ukraine, climate change and the United States's Asia-Pacific pivot.
* The G20 issued a joint statement on the crisis, saying all members are "committed to do what is necessary to ensure the international effort can extinguish the outbreak and address its medium-term economic and humanitarian costs".
* The Group of 20 world leaders committed to mobilising resources to combat the Ebola epidemic, but stopped short of agreeing to a global pandemic fund.
* Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and South African President President Jacob Zuma attended the informal meeting of leaders of the five-nation BRICS bloc along with Prime Minister Modi on the sidelines of the G20 summit.


2. Union Government launched the nationwide Bal Swachhta Mission
The Union Government on 14 November 2014 launched the National Bal Swachhta Mission in New Delhi. 14 November is the birthday of first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru and is celebrated as Children’s Day in India.
On the occasion, Union Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi also released a book on Bal Swachtta Mission prepared by NIPCCD. Apart from this, Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani, who launched the Bal Swachhta Mission at the National Bal Bhavan also launched Udaan programme for girls.
Apart from this, Bal Swachhta Week is being observed from 14 November to 19 November 2014.

3. Union Government launched Maulana Azad National Academy for Skills
Union Ministry of Minorities Affairs on 11 November 2014 launched the Maulana Azad National Academy for Skills (MANAS) to impart training to youths. It was launched on a pilot basis on the 125th birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
MANAS signed two Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) to train the youth in the health and security sectors.

4. Farhan Akhtar appointed as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia
Bollywood Actor Farhan Akhtar was on 14 November 2014 appointed as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia. Farhan is the first male ever to be chosen as a Goodwill Ambassador in the organization’s history.
Farhan will dedicate his efforts as UN Women’s Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia towards the empowerment of women and girls and will serve as an advocate for UN Women’s newly launched HeForShe initiative in advocating for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
UN Women’s other Goodwill Ambassadors include British actress Emma Watson, Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman and HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of Thailand.

5. Krishna Iyer selected for K.R. Narayanan award
 Eminent Jurist Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer has been chosen for this year’s K.R. Narayanan award for his services to the nation.
Instituted by the K.R. Narayanan Foundation in memory of the late President, the award is to honour individuals who have excelled in various fields. It carries a statuette, citation and a ‘ponnada’, a press release said.

6. ‘The Imitation Game’, ‘Gone Girl’ top Hollywood Film Awards
 Historical thriller ‘The Imitation Game’ and Oscar-winner Ben Affleck-starrer ‘Gone Girl’ took home top honours at the Hollywood Film Awards.
'Gone Girl’ was announced as the best film and received the award for best screenwriter (Gillian Flynn), said The Hollywood Reporter.
‘The Imitation Game’, a drama on the life of British mathematician and logician Alan Turing, bagged three trophies, including, best actor (Benedict Cumberbatch), best director (Morten Tyldum) and best supporting actress (Keira Knightley).
Julianne Moore took home the best actress Award for ‘Still Alice’ ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ bagged the Hollywood Blockbuster Award.

7. UK, France, Nepal supported G4 nation for permanent member of UNSC
The UK, France and Nepal on 13 November 2014 supported candidature of India, Germany, Brazil and Japan (G4 nations) for permanent member of a reformed UN Security Council (UNSC). They also emphasized African representation and expansion of the non-permanent seats.
The decision to support the G4 nation’s candidature was expressed by these nations during the debate Equitable Representation and Increase in Security Council in the UN General Assembly.

8. India successfully test-fired Dhanush ballistic missile
Surface-to-surface nuclear-capable Dhanush ballistic missile was test-fired from a naval ship off the Odisha coast on 14 November 2014. Dhanush, a naval variant of India’s indigenously-developed Prithvi missile was fired from a ship in the Bay of Bengal by the Strategic Force Command (SFC) of the defence force.
The missile launch was part of an exercise by the armed forces and it reached the designated target with high precision. Missiles launch and flight performance was monitored from the ITR at Chandipur, Odisha.

9. Johnson takes top honours at LG ICC Awards 2014
 Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has won the top ICC awards for 2013-14, being named the Cricketer of the Year, as well as Test Cricketer of the Year.
South Africa's AB de Villiers was named ODI Cricketer of the Year, while Australia's Aaron Finch won the T20 performance award for his 156 off 63 against England at the Rose Bowl in August.
England's Gary Ballance was named Emerging Cricketer of the Year, while Sarah Taylor was named the Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year and Meg Lanning, the Women's T20I Cricketer of the Year.
Scotland's Preston Mommsen got the Associate and Affiliate Cricketer of the Year award, and umpire Richard Kettleborough was named Umpire of the Year.
India seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar had previously been declared the winner of the People's Choice award. England's Katherine Brunt won the Spirit of Cricket award, for asking for a referral when a South Africa batsmen was adjudged out caught - the decision was eventually reversed.
