2. 8th India-Republic of Korea Joint Commission meeting held in South Korea
The 8th India-Republic of Korea Joint Commission Meeting was held in Seoul . The meeting was co-chaired was by Union External Minister of India Sushma Swaraj and Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea Yun Byung-se.
During the meeting, both the ministers held consultations on all aspects of bilateral ties to chart out a road map for further strengthening and deepening of strategic partnership of the both countries.
3. Union Cabinet approved hike of government stake in IFCI to 51 percent
The increase in government stake will be through infusion of 60 crore rupees by way of acquisition of preference shares from existing share holders. As a result, India’s oldest financial institution IFCI will now become a government owned company.
The current shareholding of Union government in IFCI after inclusion of the preference share capital was 47.93 percent. Therefore, IFCI was not a Government Company under section 2(45) of the Companies Act, 2013.

IFCI was set up in 1948 and it is a statutory corporation under the Industrial Finance Corporation Act, 1948. The Act was repealed by the Industrial Finance Corporation (Transfer of Undertaking and Repeal) Act, 1993 and was registered under the Companies Act, 1956.
4. Union Government constituted a Committee to look into NATGRID
Union Government constituted a high-level committee to allay apprehension of data sharing by various government agencies over National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID). NATGRID is a real time intelligence sharing set up.
The committee will be headed by the Union Home Secretary. Other members of the committee will include the chiefs of all intelligence agencies and investigating units.
The committee will discuss the steps with 22 agencies like Intelligence Bureau (IB), Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Financial intelligence Unit (FIU), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), and others.

The four new MDs & CEOs will be P Srinivas (United Bank of India), Animesh Chauhan (Oriental Bank of Commerce), R. Koteeswaran (Indian Overseas Bank) and Kishor Kumar Sansi (Vijaya Bank). The appointment of the above MD & CEOs is for a period of three years or till the date of superannuation, whichever is earlier.
A Finance Ministry statement said that in a significant departure from the past practice, the Government of India has decided to now separate the post of Chairman and MD & CEO. Henceforth, in the new appointments of PSBs other than SBI, the Chairman will be a part- time board member who would preside over the board meetings and will not be an Executive Chairman. The procedure for selection of part- time Chairman would be announced shortly.

For three `A’ Category Large Banks, that is, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank and Canara Bank, the Government has decided to go for a fresh selection procedure with a view to widening the search for candidates. The procedure for this would be announced shortly.

Spartan may make its formal debut there, but the general release of Windows 10 is not expected until the fall, so it may come at a later date.
Spartan will look and feel more like Chrome and Firefox, however, it will support extensions, reports said. The “lightweight” browser will be available on both desktop and mobile devices in Windows 10, they said.

Post office savings bank accounts can now be operated through ATMs. The Centre has amended the Post Office Savings Bank General Rules accordingly following the Budget announcement in this regard.
This facility, however, will be available only in post offices that are on core banking solution (CBS) platform. A notification said: “In case of an account standing at any post office with a core banking solution platform in place, the Post office Savings Bank shall issue ATM or debit card to the account holder on payment of such fee as may be prescribed by the Central Government.”
Currently, 676 post offices are on CBS. Four head post offices (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai) have gone live on ATM.
This entire project is part of the ₹4,909-crore IT modernisation project of the Department of Posts. The department aims to take the ATM network to 2,800 by 2015.
The notification also mentioned that a savings account holder at a post office linked to the CBS platform will be allowed to deposit money in his or her account at “any other post office with CBS platform within the limits prescribed”.
10. ADB to provide $ 60 m loan for J&K urban development
Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a $ 60 million loan to help improve urban services, including water supply and urban transport infrastructure, in two key cities of Jammu & Kashmir.
The loan from the ADB's ordinary capital resources has a 25-year term including a grace period of five years.
The third tranche loan under the Jammu & Kashmir urban sector development investment programme will supplement the urban infrastructure upgradation programme initiated under Project-I and Project-2.
About half a million people in Srinagar and Jammu will benefit from improved access to water supply, functional drainage systems, and better transport infrastructure.

The United States and Australia opposed the resolution while the United Kingdom, Nigeria, South Korea, Rwanda and Lithuania abstained.
The resolution failed to receive the required majority among members, the United States also opposed the text, a move that would have seen the draft fail to pass.
The draft outlined a solution which fulfilled the vision of two independent, democratic and prosperous states -- Israel and a sovereign, contiguous and viable State of Palestine -- living side by side in peace and security in mutually and internationally recognised borders.

A notification said: “In case of an account standing at any post office with a core banking solution platform in place, the Post office Savings Bank shall issue ATM or debit card to the account holder on payment of such fee as may be prescribed by the Central Government.”
Currently, 676 post offices are on CBS. Four head post offices (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai) have gone live on ATM.
This entire project is part of the ₹4,909-crore IT modernisation project of the Department of Posts. The department aims to take the ATM network to 2,800 by 2015.
The notification also mentioned that a savings account holder at a post office linked to the CBS platform will be allowed to deposit money in his or her account at “any other post office with CBS platform within the limits prescribed”.
10. ADB to provide $ 60 m loan for J&K urban development
Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a $ 60 million loan to help improve urban services, including water supply and urban transport infrastructure, in two key cities of Jammu & Kashmir.
The loan from the ADB's ordinary capital resources has a 25-year term including a grace period of five years.
The third tranche loan under the Jammu & Kashmir urban sector development investment programme will supplement the urban infrastructure upgradation programme initiated under Project-I and Project-2.
About half a million people in Srinagar and Jammu will benefit from improved access to water supply, functional drainage systems, and better transport infrastructure.
11. Palestinian statehood resolution fails at UNSC
The UN Security Council has failed to adopt a Palestinian statehood resolution that set a deadline for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Palestinian territories by 2017.
The long-anticipated draft tabled on Tuesday night drew the support of eight countries -- Argentina, Chad, Chile, China, France, Jordan, Luxembourg, Russia -- just one shy of the nine needed to pass a resolution in the absence of a veto by any of the Council’s five permanent members.
The United States and Australia opposed the resolution while the United Kingdom, Nigeria, South Korea, Rwanda and Lithuania abstained.
The resolution failed to receive the required majority among members, the United States also opposed the text, a move that would have seen the draft fail to pass.
The draft outlined a solution which fulfilled the vision of two independent, democratic and prosperous states -- Israel and a sovereign, contiguous and viable State of Palestine -- living side by side in peace and security in mutually and internationally recognised borders.
