Describing the LED bulb as a ‘prakash path’ (way to light), Mr. Modi said that it is much more economical to conserve power than to produce power.
Mr. Modi said this initiative was expected to reduce import bills and would save the environment.
The Prime Minister launched a web-based system to enable consumers in Delhi to register requests for procuring LED bulbs under DELP.
LED bulbs shall be distributed in a phased manner from March 2015 onwards, an official statement said.
The entire project of installing LED bulbs for domestic and street lighting in 100 cities is targeted for completion by March 2016.
In Delhi, LED bulbs will be provided to all domestic consumers at an initial payment of Rs 10 each and recovery of Rs 10 each for 12 months from their electricity bill.
The estimated annual savings for households in Delhi per LED bulb will be Rs 162.

It will cover all aspects of the Tea industry, including garden workers who comprise nearly 20 percent of the state population by mapping tea community database, graphs and maps.
It will also provide features like geographical locations of the gardens, proprietorship, various indicators like implementation of Plantations Labour Act and government schemes meant for the tea community.
In this case, tea communities have been identified as the focus of UNICEF Assam’s Social Inclusion and Equity Programming which addresses the issues like early marriage, alcoholism and child labour among them.

• DuPont will supply SRF with the product from its existing facility till SRF’s production facility is approved.
• This transaction provides immediate access to SRF on DuPont’s technology, brand and customers, thus enabling its instant entry into the pharmaceutical segment at a global level.

11. Andhra Bank to get capital from govt; no merger threat for now
Andhra Bank has almost got a new lease of life and there is no merger threat for the bank for now. The Government is set to grant a capital of about Rs. 200- 300 crore.
The issue of mergers came up for discussion in the two-day bankers meet held in Pune last week and the view is that no bank is in a position to support another bank in view of the prevailing economic conditions, CVR Rajendran, Chairman and Managing Director of Andhra Bank, told BusinessLine here on Monday.
This, in effect, gives a new lease of life for Andhra Bank, the only public sector bank from Andhra Pradesh.
Last week, BusinessLine reported that the bank was facing threat of merger in view of high non-performing assets from big corporate clients, especially from the infrastructure sector.
It has also been decided that the issue of merger/amalgamation will be board-driven and not be pushed by the Government, said Rajendran, adding that: "In addition to capital from the Govt, we will be raising another Rs. 500 crore next month which should give us about Rs. 800 crore. With the previously-raised Rs. 500 crore tier – I capital, we will be comfortable.’’

His win comes after world number one Novak Djokovic withdrew from the final match citing reason of illness.

10. Transgender Madhu Kinnar won Mayoral election from Raigarh Municipal Corporation
Independent candidate and transgender Madhu Kinnar on 4 January 2015 won the Mayoral election in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh Municipal Corporation. Kinnar won the election by 4537 votes against Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Mahaveer Guruji.
With this, she scripted history by becoming the first transgender to get elected as mayor in the state.
Madhu Kinnar, whose original name is Naresh Chauhan, funded her electoral campaign by working as a singer and dancer on trains.
Her win follows Supreme Court’s decision, in which it ruled that transgender people could be legally recognised as a third gender.
After the SC’s decision, Tamil-language Lotus TV based in the city of Coimbatore in September 2014 recruited India’s first ever transgender news anchor, Padmini Prakash.

11. Andhra Bank to get capital from govt; no merger threat for now
Andhra Bank has almost got a new lease of life and there is no merger threat for the bank for now. The Government is set to grant a capital of about Rs. 200- 300 crore.
The issue of mergers came up for discussion in the two-day bankers meet held in Pune last week and the view is that no bank is in a position to support another bank in view of the prevailing economic conditions, CVR Rajendran, Chairman and Managing Director of Andhra Bank, told BusinessLine here on Monday.
This, in effect, gives a new lease of life for Andhra Bank, the only public sector bank from Andhra Pradesh.
Last week, BusinessLine reported that the bank was facing threat of merger in view of high non-performing assets from big corporate clients, especially from the infrastructure sector.
It has also been decided that the issue of merger/amalgamation will be board-driven and not be pushed by the Government, said Rajendran, adding that: "In addition to capital from the Govt, we will be raising another Rs. 500 crore next month which should give us about Rs. 800 crore. With the previously-raised Rs. 500 crore tier – I capital, we will be comfortable.’’
