1. Saurav Ganguly awarded Honorary Life Membership of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC)
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC)  awarded Honorary Life Membership to the former Indian cricket captain Saurav Ganguly. He has been a member of the MCC World Cricket committee since July 2014.
Ganguly, affectionately called Dada and the Prince of Calcutta, retired from all forms of international cricket in 2012 after playing for India for 16 long years.
He debuted for India in 1996 at the Lord’s against England and went on to score 131-run in first innings of his test debut. The knock at the Lord’s helped him to etch his name on the famous Lord’s Honours Board in process.
His captaincy during Nat-West series Final at Lords in 2002, in which India defeated England to win the series, is regarded as the greatest ever match played at Lord’s.


2. Infosys acquires automation tech firm Panaya for $200 million
India’s software services giant Infosys has announced to acquire to acquire US-based automation technology firm Panaya.
In this regard, Infosys has signed a definitive agreement to fully acquire Panaya for an enterprise value of $200 million (1200 crore rupees) in cash.
Acquisition of Panaya is part of Infosys new strategy to enhance its competitiveness and productivity of current service lines by leveraging automation, innovation and artificial intelligence.
It also the first major acquisition since Vishal Sikka took over as the CEO and MD of the company.
Panaya was founded in 2005 in Israel by its current CEO Doron Gerstel. It has around 50 employees and its clients include Coca-Cola, Mercedes-Benz, Bosch, Whirlpool, GSK and Siemen .
Panaya is the Infosy’s second largest acquisition after it had acquired Zurich-based consulting company in 2012 for around $350 million.

3. Veteran journalist, cartoonist Rajinder Puri passes away
Veteran journalist, cartoonist and political activist Rajinder Puri has passed away on 15 February 2015 in New Delhi. He was 80.
About Rajinder Puri
Rajinder Puri was born in on 20 September 1934 in Karachi (in undivided India) now in Pakistan.
His distinguished career as journalist and cartoonist spanned for more than six decades.
He drew cartoons for international daily The Statesman in 1956-57. Later he drew cartoons briefly for international newspapers like The Guardian and The Glasgow Herald (1958–59).

4. Punit Renjen appointed as CEO of Deloitte’s global operations
Punit Renjen was appointed as the Chief executive officer (CEO) of accounting giant Deloitte’s global operations.
He will succeed Barry Salzberg and assume his new role of Deloitte Global CEO from 1 June 2015. Currently he is serving as US business Chairman and CEO of the Deloitte group.
Deloitte is U.S. based accounting giant which is present across 150 countries including India and employs over two lakh people. It is one of the four largest audit firms in the world and competes with PwC, KPMG and EY.
With this appointment, Punit Renjen is the first Indian-origin person to head a Big-Four global audit firms.

5. HTC appoints Faisal Siddiqui as new South Asia chief
Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC has appointed Faisal Siddiqui as new regional President of HTC South Asia.
He will replace current president Jack Yang, who is leaving the company for personal reasons.
Currently, Faisal Siddiqui is Vice President and head of HTC India.
As president of HTC South Asia he will lead company and work to strengthen the company in the region which includes, India, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and emerging markets in Asia.
Faisal Siddiqui has more than 18 years of rich industry experience and has been leading HTC’s India operations since 2011.

6. Former home minister of Maharashtra RR Patil passes away
Former Home Minister of Maharashtra, Raosaheb Ramrao Patil has passed away in Mumbai. He was 57 years old and was suffering from oral cancer.
About Raosaheb Ramrao Patil
R. R Patil was born on 16 August 1957 in Anjani village of Sangli district in Maharashtra. He was popularly known as Aaba.R. R Patil was Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra from November 2004 to December 2008 during the NCP-Congress coalition government.

7. Dosmoche festival celebrated in Ladakh
Dosmoche festival was celebrated with religious and traditional fervor in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir in the third week of February 2015. The festival was celebrated with a week-long period of prayers and ritual at Liker monastery.
It is celebrated to mark the victory over evil forces and also to evade any natural disaster in the year ahead.
Dosmoche festival is a social and religious fair and was instituted by the Kings of Ladakh on the pattern of the famous Mon-Lam or Great Prayer ceremony of Lhasa. The festival is widely celebrated at the majestic Leh palace in Leh town and Liker monastery in lower Ladakh.
Dosmoche that is celebrated in half of February is one of the two New Year festivals of Ladakh region, the other is Losar.

8. EPFO sets up online helpdesk for inoperative accounts
The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has set up an online helpdesk for employees to claim retirement funds lying under ‘inoperative accounts’. As on March 31, 2014, over Rs. 27,000 crore has been lying in operative accounts with the EPFO.
Accounts that fail to make contributions for 36 continuous months are classified as inoperative accounts.
The helpdesk, to be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, requires a PF account holder to register with it to enable EPFO to “trace and settle all cases proactively”, the retirement fund body said.

9. Anand draws with Caruana in Zurich Chess Challenge
Viswanathan Anand played out a tense draw with Fabiano Caruana of Italy and slipped to second spot after the end of the third round of the Zurich Chess Challenge here.
After a brilliant victory against Armenian Levon Aronian in the previous round, it was a tipsy-turvy battle against Caruana for Anand that was finally drawn.

10. Cyclist Alberto Contador of Spain announced to retire from Cycling after 2016 season
Alberto Contador, the two-time Tour de France winner, on 16 February 2015 announced that he will retire from professional cycling after the 2016 season.
He announced his plan to retire at the presentation of the junior and under 23 FundaciĆ³n Alberto Contador (Alberto Contador Foundation) at the Hotel Princess Eboli in his hometown of Pinto, Spain.

11. PNB MetLife launches endowment plan for college education 
Private life insurer PNB MetLife today launched a non-linked deferred participating endowment plan — ‘MetLife College Plan’ — aimed at securing one’s child’s education. According to a release issued by the company, “with the ever increasing cost of education, the new product from PNB MetLife’s portfolio ensures regular funds during the child’s college years.”
MetLife College Plan provides protection in case of unforeseen eventualities with inbuilt waiver of premium benefit and the policy remains in force till maturity. Customers have flexible saving options from 12-24 years. Also MetLife College Plan includes a proposition to boost the maturity/ final year payout with revisionary bonus and terminal bonus.

12. LVB ties up with NCML
Lakshmi Vilas Bank has tied up with National Collateral Management Services (NCML), an agri-infrastructure service provider for collateral management and warehousing services. The service is expected to enable traders and farmers to finance their capital requirements. this as a strategic alliance with NCML, Rakesh Sharma, Chief Executive of the bank said this partnership would enable the bank mitigate credit risk for its commodity finance product offerings. NCML has partnered with over 40 banks. Its warehouses manage about 70 agricultural commodities and provide storage services for non-agricultural commodities and inventories.

13. Japan unveils $15.5-mn aid against West Asia terrorism
Japan today announced USD 15.5 million to fight “terrorism” in the West Asia and Africa, as Tokyo tries to demonstrate its resolve despite the murder of two citizens by Islamist extremists.
The amount doubles the USD 7.5 million in assistance that Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida pledged during a visit to Brussels in January.
Kishida said in a statement the aid was part of Japan’s effort to support “counter-terrorism capacity building assistance in the West Asia/Africa,” including border control, investigation and development of legal systems.
