Anish Aggarwal has taken charge as Director (Pipelines) at nation’s largest oil refining and marketing company, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). Previously, he was Executive Director (Operations) at the IOC’s Pipelines Division. Anish Aggarwal As Executive Director (Operations), he was leading a IOC team that looked into operations and maintenance of company’s 11,221 kms long pipeline network across country for transporting crude oil and petroleum products. India’s 1st solar fenced elephant sanctuary will come up near Bengaluru, Karnataka. It was announced by an international animal rights and conservation group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). In this regard, PETA and the Bannerghatta Biological Park, Karnataka have joined hands.
Key facts about solar fenced elephant sanctuary
Its main objective is to allow elephants in this park to move around freely within the secure area to curb man- animal conflicts in this area. It will cover 49.5 hectare area within the Biological Park which is an extension of the Bannerghatta National Park. Designed by the PETA consultant and elephant expert Carol Buckley and basically includes solar electric fence and a state-of-the-art emergency corral made of steel pipes. Local caregivers will be also trained on the principles of protected contact. It will allow safe interaction between human beings and elephants by keeping them separated by a barrier. It will also replace age-old routine of physical punishment techniques to manage the elephants, by positive reinforcement techniques.
6. Bharat Rang Mahotsav begins in New Delhi
The 17th edition of Bharat Rang Mahotsav has begun in New Delhi. It is a theatre festival, organized by National School of Drama (NSD). It was inaugurated by Culture Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma and National Award-winning actor and NSD alumnus Om Puri. This year’s edition will showcase more than 200 national and international theatre performances. International performances will include theatre productions from countries like Poland, Israel, USA, France and Bangladesh. Bharat Rang Mahotsav It was established in 1999 as an annual theatre festival of National School of Drama (NSD). Originally it was founded to show case, works of Indian theatre practitioners but later it got international fame and attracted international performers as well. 7.Aditya Birla Nuvo forms JV with Idea Cellular for payment bank licence
Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited has submitted an application to the Reserve Bank of India for obtaining license for setting-up a Payments Bank. As per the proposed structure, ABNL will be the Promoter of Payments Bank holding 51 per cent equity capital. Idea Cellular Limited, an Aditya Birla Group company where ABNL is largest promoter shareholder, will be holding balance 49 per cent equity capital. The Board of Directors of ABNL has also approved that equity participation of Idea may be increased up to 60 per cent, if permitted from time to time with approval of regulatory bodies as applicable.
8. State Bank of Hyd’s one-time settlement scheme
State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) is offering concessions for loan defaulters under its special mega bank adalat scheme till February 4, 2015. The scheme, which has been in force from Jan 28, 2015 has now been extended up to February 4, 2015. The borrowers / guarantors whose accounts have become NPAs due to default or failure to repay the interest / instalment or both can now settle their dues under the schemes in consultation with their respective branch heads, according to a release.

Japan on 1 February 2015 successfully launched the Information Gathering Satellite, a spy satellite. The Satellite was launched from the Tanegashima Space Centre in the Kagoshima Prefecture in the south of Japan.The satellite was taken into orbit by the H-2A (H-IIA) carrier rocket. The satellite carries a sophisticated radar payload designed to survey the globe night and day in all weather conditions from an orbit about 300 miles above Earth. The Satellite was scheduled to be launched on 29 January 2015. However, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries delayed the planned launch due to the possibility of lightning during lift-off.

Wildlife SOS in collaboration with Uttar Pradesh (UP) Forest Department and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is launching Jackal Research & Translocation Project in UP.Under this project, study and translocation of 30-35 wild jackals from Akbar’s Tomb in Sikandra, Agra to safe natural habitat will be undertaken. Jackal Translocation Project It seeks to protect Blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra) population in Akbar’s tomb as well as jackals. Recent surveys have shown that jackal population has increased inside the Akbars tomb premises. It had resulted in decrease in population of Blackbuck’s as jackals were preying on the young fawn of the black bucks. This project will help to reduce unnatural proximity between these two species by translocating jackal to other safe natural habitat and save almost 100 blackbucks.
