1. RBI keeps key rates unchanged but changes statutory liquidity ratio

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced sixth Bi-Monthly Monetary
 Policy Statement.
In its bi-monthly monetary policy statement, RBI has not changed its main lending rate i.e.Repo Rate and cash reserve ratio (CRR). But changed statutory liquidity ratio (SLR) of scheduled commercial banks.
On the basis of an assessment of the current and evolving macroeconomic situation, RBI has been decided to:
 Repo rate- kept the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) unchanged at 7.75 per cent.
 Cash reserve ratio (CRR) - kept the cash reserve ratio (CRR) of scheduled banks unchanged at 4.0 per cent of net demand and time liabilities (NDTL).
 Statutory liquidity ratio (SLR) - reduced the SLR of scheduled commercial banks by 50 basis points from 22.0 per cent to 21.5 per cent of their NDTL.
 Reverse repo rate under the LAF – remains unchanged at 6.75 per cent.
 Marginal standing facility (MSF) rate- remains unchanged at 8.75 per cent.
 Bank Rate – remains unchanged at 8.75 per cent.

 2. Dr.Nandita Chatterjee takes charge as Secretary in Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation
Dr.Nandita Chatterjee has taken charge as the new Secretary in the Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA). She will succeed Anita Agnihotri who was transferred to the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment in recent secretary-level bureaucratic reshuffle.Prior to this appointment Dr.Nandita Chatterjee was a Member-Secretary of National Commission for Women (NCW).

3. Madhya Pradesh gets 10th national award for excellent work in MGNREGA
Madhya Pradesh has been awarded the 10th national award for excellent work in Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). Union Rural Development Minister Virendra Singh presented the award to state’s Panchayats and Rural Development Minister Gopal Bhargava at the MGNREGA summit held on the occasion of MNREGA Divas (observed on 2 February) in New Delhi. Madhya Pradesh was chosen for this award for convergence of MGNREGA scheme and other schemes, which led to permanent construction of assets and providing opportunities for earning permanent income.
 
4. Acclaimed sculptor and artist Mrinalini Mukherjee passes away
Acclaimed Indian sculptor and artist Mrinalini Mukherjee has passed away in New Delhi. She was 65. She was best known for her sculptures using knotted hemp ropes and cast bronzes.

5.Joint Communiqué of tri-nation meet of Foreign Ministers of India-Russia-China released
13th meet of the Foreign Ministers of India, Russia and China was held in Beijing, China on 2 February 2015.  The three foreign ministers namely Sushma Swaraj (India), Wang Yi (China) and Sergey Lavrov (Russia) after the meet released a Joint Communiqué.  The communiqué emphasised on cooperation between their countries which is conducive to maintain international and regional peace and stability and promoting global economic growth and prosperity.

6. Mithileshwar awarded with Shrilal Shukla Sahitya IFFCO Award 2014
Hindi novelist Mithileshwar was  awarded with Shrilal Shukla Sahitya IFFCO Award 2014. He is the fourth recipient of this literary award.Mithileshwar belongs to Bhojpur district and is known for his insight into the rural heartland of India. He began writing during his student period.  Some of his novels include Prem na Badi Oopjai, Surang me Subah, Yah Ant Nahin, Jhunia (1980), Yuddh Sthal (1981). He has accumulated many awards in his career including Akhil Bhartiya MuktiBodh Puraskar in 1976, Yashpal Puraskar by UP Hindi Sansthan in 1981.

7. India and China jointly launched Visit India Year in China
India and China on 2 February 2015 jointly launched the Visit India Year in China in Beijing during the visit of Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to China.The initiative is aimed at enhancing the flow of tourists from China to India and to strengthen the people to people bond. China will support the promotion of Indian tourist resources in its country.
Background
The idea of Visit India Year was endorsed by the two countries during the visit of the Chinese President, Xi Jinping to Delhi in September 2014. At that time, it was agreed to designate 2015 as Visit India Year in China and designate 2016 as Visit China Year in India. Under this, the two countries will carry out a series of promotional activities to boost two-way tourism inflow and strengthen people to people bonds.

8. First major trials of Ebola vaccine begins in Liberia
The first large-scale human trials of two experimental vaccines against Ebola virus has begun in Liberia’s capital Monrovia. With help of these vaccines, scientists are aiming to immunise more than 30,000 volunteers, including front-line health workers in Liberia. These trials are taking place after smaller studies determined that the vaccines were safe for human use. However, it is not yet clear whether these trial vaccines will offer protection against the disease.

9. World Wetlands Day is being observed on 2 February
Every year World wetland day (WWD) is observed on 2 February. The theme for the world wetland day 2015 is Wetlands for our future.
