1. Overseas inflows at Rs. 72,000 cr so far this year
 Overseas investors have pumped in nearly Rs. 14,000 crore into the Indian capital markets within a fortnight of this month, taking the total inflow to around Rs. 72,000 crore since the beginning of the year.
The analysts expect the inflows to accelerate further going ahead following the passage of the Insurance Bill in Parliament and assurances in the Budget to revisit controversial issues such as the General Anti-Avoidance Rule (GAAR).
Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have bought shares worth a net Rs. 9,134 crore during March 2012-13, while in the debt segment, their net inflows stood at Rs. 4,567 crore, taking the total to Rs. 13,706 crore ($2.2 billion), according to data compiled by Central Depository Services Ltd.
The latest inflow takes the foreign investments in the country’s capital markets (equity and debt segments) to Rs. 71,958 crore ($11.63 billion) so far this year.

2. Govt employees may get LTC to visit SAARC nations
 Central Government employees may get to visit some SAARC nations barring Pakistan under new Leave Travel Concession (LTC) rules being finalised by the Centre.
“Employees will be able to avail LTC to visit some SAARC countries. A proposal in this regard is being finalised by the Government,” Union Minister Jitendra Singh told PTI.
LTC allows grant of leave and ticket reimbursement to eligible Central Government employees.
The decision has been taken to promote people-to-people contact and boost tourism among the SAARC regions, he said.
“The Government has been taking many steps to promote trade and travel. This is one such step to further boost ties among SAARC nations,” said Singh, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is a group of eight nations comprising Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and India.

3. Veteran Gandhian Narayan Desai passes away
One of the country’s noted Gandhians, Narayan Desai, known for his rendition of 
Gandhi Katha — stories on the Mahatma’s life — passed away at a private hospital in Surat on Sunday at the ripe age of 90.


4. Chinese economy faces big downward pressures: Premier Li
"This year we set the anticipated GDP target approximately 7 perent. It is true that we have adjusted downward our GDP target but it will by no means easy for us to meet this target," he said at his annual press conference at the end of the 10-day meeting of the legislature, the National People’s Congress (NPC).
    China registered 7.4 percent growth last year, slowest in 24 years. A recent IMF forecast said China's growth rate would further decline to 6.8 this year and 6.3 next year.
    Li said because China's economic aggregate is expanding it size now is valued at about USD 10 trillion which is equivalent to the total economy of a medium sized country.

5. Pioneer of Israeli cinema Lia van Leer passes away
Lia van Leer, pioneer of Israeli cinema passed away  in Jerusalem, Israel. She was 90.
She was the founder of Israel Film Archive, Jerusalem Cinematheque, Haifa Cinematheque and the Jerusalem Film Festival.

6. Mary Kom to be brand ambassador of Northeast
 Olympic medal winning boxer MC Mary Kom is being appointed as the brand ambassador of the Northeast to showcase the potential of the region which offers Rs. 2.4 trillion business opportunities across various sectors.
An official announcement in this regard would me made soon, Minister of State in the Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh said.
“We are going to have a brand ambassador for Northeast. So, after a lot of deliberations we have zeroed in on the name of MC Mary Kom as the brand ambassador. We will make a formal announcement in a couple of days from now when she is in Delhi,” Singh said while addressing the 10th North East Business Summit in New delhi.The two—day Summit “Development through partnership with ASEAN and BIMSTEC Countries” was organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce here.
Hailing from Manipur, one of the eight northeastern States, Mary Kom is a five—time World Amateur Boxing champion, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships.

7. Mahatma Gandhi Honoured by UK With a Statue at Parliament Square
A historic bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled today at the Parliament Square in London in a rare honour bestowed by the British government which had been a staunch adversary of the iconic leader during its colonial rule in India.
The 9-foot statue was unveiled jointly by British Prime Minister David Cameron and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley as chants of "Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram", a popular bhajan that was Mahatma Gandhi's favourite, reverberated in the air.
Many political leaders were present at the unveiling along with Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan and Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
Mahatma Gandhi is the first Indian, and the only person never to have been in a public office, to be honoured with a statue at the Square. The statue stands exactly opposite Britain's Houses of Parliament in the Palace of Westminster and adjacent to iconic leaders like anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela.

8. Pakistan Tests First Indigenous Armed Drone, Laser Guided Missile
Pakistan today successfully tested its first indigenous all-weather armed drone and a laser guided missile.
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif attended the ceremony and witnessed the test-fire of the new missile on static and moving targets.
The drone, named Burraq, has the ability to fly in all types of weather conditions and strike its targets with pinpoint accuracy.
   Pakistan also tested its laser guided missile named Barq. Mr Sharif said this newly developed arsenal will increase the military's capacity in fighting terrorism. He commended engineers, scientists and technicians for their untiring efforts to develop this state of the art technology.
