1. Sri Lankan duo Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara retired from ODI cricket
Veteran cricketers of Sri Lanka Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara on 18 March 2015 retired from the One Day International (ODI) format of Cricket.
The two veteran cricketers retired after the World Cup quarter-final match against South Africa played at Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia. In the quarter-final, Sri Lanka lost the match by 9 wickets to South Africa.
Both the much celebrated cricketers of Sri Lanka had earlier announced that 2015 World Cup would be their final ODI.

2. Haryana Government decided to issue UIDAI-like numbers for cows
State Government of Haryana in third week of March 2015 decided to introduce Special Identification Tags with unique identification numbers for Haryana cows, an indigenous breed found in the state. These special identification tags and unique identification numbers will be like the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) format.
The scheme aims to establish identity of cows, their security and provide them benefits of health schemes.
Features of this initiative
• Each cow will have a 12-digit identification number and an ID card which will be fixed as tags around its neck
• A booklet will be provided to the owners of the cow in which they can fill cows’ data everyday
• The database of the scheme of special identification tags will record certain details of the cows like photographs, race, complexion, body structure and age
This programme will begin under the National Dairy Programme. On an experimental basis the project will start at few blocks from April 2015

3. India to host seventh Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in 2016
India will host the seventh Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) in 2016. This was announced by Home Minister of India Rajnath Singh on 17 March 2015 at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction held in Sendai, Japan.
Also, this will be the first AMCDRR to be hosted by India in the post-2015 framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, though India had hosted the Second AMCDRR in 2007.
The conference in 2016 will be held in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).
The ministerial conference is set to endorse a regional implementation plan of the new post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction. This will form a key element of the initial global effort to implement the new framework.
The Sixth Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction was held in Thailand from 23 June to 26 June 2014.
It was the final regional inter-governmental meeting in Asia before the completion of the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-15 and the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in 2015.

4. Xpress Money launches `direct account credit’ services to India
Xpress Money, global money transfer service provider, added a new mode of money transfer for its customers sending money to India.
The ‘Direct Account Credit’ service allows customers to send money directly to any bank account in India, making money transfer even more convenient for both the sender and receiver. Introduced from UK, Greece, Belgium, Ireland, Romania, Cyprus, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, France, Malta, Turkey, Germany, Netherlands, Gibraltar and Norway in the initial phase, the company has plans to roll out this service in other markets that have a large Indian diaspora, Xpress Money said in a statement.
“To avail of this service, a customer can walk into any Xpress Money location in the mentioned countries and ask for the money to be sent to their beneficiary’s account through the ‘Direct Account Credit’ service. Once the transaction has been processed, the amount will be credited to their beneficiary’s account within 24 to 48 hours.
“The remitter also will receive an SMS confirmation, as soon as the money is credited to the selected account, ensuring a hassle-free transaction. Beneficiaries can choose to withdraw the remitted money from close to 150,000 ATMs in India, or from their designated bank branches in the country,” the statement added.

5. LIC, SBI lead advance tax-payers’ list
Reflecting the strain in the economy, advance tax paid by top companies headquartered in Mumbai has increased by less than one per cent in the March quarter to ₹20,970 crore against ₹20,890 crore in the same period last year.
High interest rate and slowing demand hit most corporates leading to lower payout during the quarter. Corporate houses pay advance tax based on their capital spend and future earning prospects. A lower remittance reflects their weak sentiment.
For the financial year ending March, tax payout by these 100 companies was up 11 per cent at ₹85,470 crore against ₹76,980 crore, sources said.
State-owned insurance behemoth LIC and State Bank of India retained their top slot as largest tax payers by paying ₹1,470 crore and ₹1750 crore respectively in the March quarter against ₹1,280 crore and ₹1,450 crore paid in the same period last year.

6. Solar Impulse-2 leaves for Myanmar from Varanasi
The world’s only ‘no-fuel’ solar-powered aircraft ‘Solar Impulse-2’ today took off for Myanmar from Varanasi after overnight stopover, ending its week-long journey in India as part of the round-the-world trip. The aircraft took off at around 5:22 am from Varanasi airport and is being flown by co-pilot as well as project President Bertrand Piccard.
The Solar Impulse-2 is currently flying the fourth leg.
The Aircraft made a night stop in Varanasi for nearly 8 hours.
The CEO and pilot of Solar Impulse, Andre Borschberg, had flown the solar-powered aircraft to Varanasi from Ahmedabad.

7. China-backed AIIB to be joined by France, Germany, Italy
AIIB: Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank China-backed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) was in news in third week of March 2015. It was in news as it was reported that France, Germany and Italy have agreed to join the AIIB after the United Kingdom (UK) decided to join the bank.
UK was the first Western nation to join the bank disregarding reservations expressed by the United States (US) which raised concerns over its transparency.
If these US-led western allied join the bank, the total number of the bank’s member states including India will go up to 30.
Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a 50 billion dollar international investment bank and was floated in 2014 by President Xi Jingping. The bank was floated to provide support to infrastructure projects in Asia. It is expected that the bank will be formally established by end of 2015.
India along with 20 other countries on 23 October 2014 signed an agreement to become the founding member of the China-backed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
