1. Axis Bank launches financial planning app
Axis Bank, India’s third largest private sector bank, has partnered Max Life Insurance, to launch a financial planning app to facilitate better life insurance purchasing experience to customers.
"The app furthers the Axis Bank vision to be the preferred financial solutions provider excelling in customer delivery through insight, empowered employees and smart use of technology...," Axis Bank said in statement. The application is designed to enable policy issuance in less than four hours.
The digital initiative also involves latest analytics tools that will ensure that Axis Bank and Max Life are able to offer customised life insurance solutions after complete understanding of life stage needs of their customers.
 “The launch of this app will further help us in identifying the customer’s needs and constraints and then offer the best product to realise those goals. We will also be able to provide a straight through process with minimal paperwork with the customer interacting with just a single person instead of six in the current process.”
.The process enables us to leverage smart customer analytics to offer a wider spectrum of customised offerings which will help Axis Bank in creating and protecting wealth for their customers.”

2. Madhav Gadgil and Dr. Jane Lubchenco won Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement 2015
Indian ecologist Madhav Gadgil and US Scientist Dr. Jane Lubchenco were  named for the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement 2015.They were named for the award for their leadership and engagement in the development of conservation and sustainability policies in the United States, India and internationally.
As the winners of the Tyler Prize, Lubchenco and Gadgil will share the 200000 US Dollar cash prize and each will receive a gold medallion at a private ceremony in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles on 24 April 2015.
Madhav Gadgil became the second Indian to receive the award after MS Swaminathan in 1991. He received the award to help dramatically improve crop yields in India.

3. World Tuberculosis Day 2015 observed globally
24 March: World Tuberculosis Day
World Tuberculosis Day (WTD) 2015 was globally observed on 24 March 2015. The theme for the year 2015 is continuation of the 2014 theme Reach the 3 Million. The main sub-theme and message for the year 2015 is Reach, Treat, Cure Everyone.
The WTD is annually celebrated on 24 March to commemorate the day on which Dr. Robert Koch discovered the cause of tuberculosis, the TB bacillus in 1882. The day aims to build public awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis (TB) and efforts to eliminate the disease.

4. Shashi Kapoor selected for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2014
The Union Government announced that Shashi Kapoor was selected for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2014. The 77-year-old the veteran film actor and producer is the 46th Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner. The 2014 Dadasaheb Phalke award to Shashi Kapoor made him the third member of Kapoor family to receive the award after Prithviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor.

5. World Meteorological Day 2015 observed with the theme Climate Knowledge for Climate Action
The World Meteorological Day (WMD) 2015 was observed across the world . The theme for the WMD 2015 is Climate Knowledge for Climate Action.The theme assumes significance in the backdrop of necessity to disseminate Climate Change related knowledge to take up appropriate mitigation and adaptation actions.
Every year on the occasion of WMD, awards for meteorological research are also given. These awards include The International Meteorological Organization Prize, Professor Dr. Vilho Vaisaila Award and The Norbert Gerbier-Mumm International Award.

6. Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis won the women doubles title of BNP Paribas Tennis Open
Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis, the Indo-Swiss women pair of Tennis, won the women doubles title of BNP Paribas Open. In the title clash played at Indian Wells, USA, the duo defeated the Russian pair of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina 6-3, 6-4.En route to the title, the top seeds Sania and Hingis didn’t drop even a single set in the tournament.
Till date, Hingis has won 11 Grand Slams which include nine in women's and two in mixed, while Sania has claimed three Grand Slams, all in mixed.

7. Fatima to become first woman Muslim pilot
Syeda Salva Fatima is going to be the first woman pilot from her community in the Old City of Hyderabad to take a commercial pilot course. She has just received a letter sanctioning Rs. 35.50 lakh from Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to join Multi-engine Rating and Type Rating Training Course.
A graduate from Dr B R Ambedkar Open University, Fatima is born into a poor family. Her father works in a bakery and husband doing a private job. The State government would release the amount to Telangana State Aviation Academy towards fee for her seat.

8. IRCTC launches RuPay pre-paid debit card
Railway passengers can now book their tickets, do shopping and pay service bills using RuPay pre-paid cards, as the IRCTC launched the debit card service here today.
The service was launched by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in collaboration with the Union Bank of India and the National Payment Corporation of India.
“It is a union with your bank for customers’ interest,” Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said here while launching the IRCTC-UBI RuPay pre-paid card.
 the card is a first-of-its-kind in the market as both virtual as well as physical cards are being issued to customers in two variants.
RuPay is India’s own card payment gateway network like Visa and Master Card, and provides an alternative system for banks to provide a debit card service.
About the RuPay pre-paid debit card
1). Cards can be made available from UBI offices or through IRCTC online. Initially the service will be available for booking tickets and later on shopping and bill payments will be added.
2). “the card holder will get free Rs. 1 lakh accident insurance coverage as part of the benefits to customers.”
3). One can have the card with a loading limit of Rs. 10,000 with partial “Know Your Customer” (KYC) detail or Rs. 50,000 loading limit with full KYC.
4). The transaction charge would be Rs. 10 per ticket for booking a ticket through the card on the IRCTC portal.

9. Maharashtra Government announced to make Sale of Gutka a non-bailable offence
State Government of Maharashtra announced that those involved in the sale of gutka in the state will be booked under Section 328 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), that is, sale of gutka will be made a non-bailable offence.
The decision was announced by State Food and Drug Minister Girish Bapat in the State Legislative Assembly.Until now, the manufacture and sale of Gutka was banned in Maharashtra, but was not implemented effectively leading to smuggling of the tobacco-laced chewing products in the state from neighbouring states. Maharashtra banned the sale of gutka in July 2012.
Section 328 of the IPC carries the charge of causing hurt by means of poison etc. with intent to commit an offence and the person who administers or causes any person to take any poison or any stupefying, intoxicating or unwholesome drug could be imprisoned for a term which may extend up to 10 years with fine.
