1.India, South Korea sign seven agreements
India and South Korea today inked seven agreements, including on avoidance of double taxation and formalising consultations between National Security Councils of the two nations, to boost bilateral ties. The agreements were signed after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with South Korean President Park Geun-hye here.
(i). The India-South Korea Double Taxation Avoidance Convention signed in 1985 has been revised with a view to avoiding the burden of double taxation on taxpayers in the two countries.
(ii). The two nations also agreed to cooperate in audio-visual co-production. The agreement in this regard is being signed under the provisions of India-South Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and would enable co-production of films, animation and broadcasting programmes. The pact would enable opportunities for collaboration between Indian and Korean film industries, and facilitate collaboration and exchange.
(iii). The two nations also signed a MoU for cooperation between the National Security Council Secretariat of India and the Office of National Security of South Korea. This would formalise consultations between National Security Councils of the two countries in a number of areas.
(iv). Another MoU was signed between the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea on cooperation in the field of electric power development and new energy industries. The agreement envisages cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, smart grids and power information and technology, transmission and distribution of electric power, energy efficiency and storage system.
(v). The two nations also signed a MoU to strengthen and encourage cooperation on youth matters through participation in events and activities through exchanges, international conferences, seminars, youth camps, festivals etc.
(vi). The two sides also signed Framework of Cooperation (FOC) in the Field of Road Transport and Highways. The FOC envisages cooperation in areas including road policies, design and construction, road operation, road management and safety, intelligent transport systems and electronic toll collection systems.
(vii). The MoU on cooperation between the two countries in the fields of maritime transport and logistics including through sharing of technologies, information and experiences, the training of seafarers, exchange of experts and port operations etc was also signed.

2. HDFC Bank launches medical prepaid card
HDFC Bank, the country’s second largest private lender, launched medical benefits prepaid card for corporates to disburse medical benefits to their employees.
HDFC Bank has partnered with Apollo Hospitals for this prepaid product that allows corporates to load the specified allowance onto the card each month, which can be used by employees for medical expenditure at pan-India VISA/ MasterCard outlets, the bank said in a statement.
The card also offers employees access to a wide range of additional benefits such as free accidental insurance of Rs. 3 lakh, complimentary ambulance services at select hospitals and offers and discounts at Apollo Network.
“This card offers an easy and convenient way for corporates to save costs and eliminate administrative issues while disbursing medical allowances," said Parag Rao, Senior Executive Vice President & Business Head, Cards Payment Products.

3. Vikas Gowda wins bronze medal in Shanghai IAAF Diamond League
Ace India discus thrower Vikas Gowda won a bronze medal in the second leg of the prestigious IAAF Diamond League series on Sunday.  The 31-year-old Gowda hurled the disc to a distance of 63.90m, which he achieved in his fifth and penultimate attempt to finish third behind 2013 World Championships silver medallist Piotr Malachowski (64.65m) of Poland and Robert Urbanek (64.47m), also of Poland. 
National record holder Gowda, the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Asian Games silver medal winner, will pocket $4000 for the third-place finish, besides earning one Diamond League point. 

4. Ethiopian runners win both Men’s & Women’s titles in TCS World 10000m run
Ethiopian runners won both the Men’s and Women’s titles in the eighth edition of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) World 10 Thousand metre run in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
In Men’s category, Mosinet Geremew bagged the title by clocking 28 minutes and 16 seconds, while his teammate Fikadu settled at second place clocking 28 minutes and 14 seconds.
In the women’s section, Mamitu Daska bagged the title by clocking 31 minutes and 57 seconds
In Indian Men’s category Suresh Kumar bagged the title by clocking 29 minutes 49 seconds.
In women’s category Tamil Nadu’s Suriya Loganathan won the title with a time of 35 minutes and 58 seconds.
TCS 1000 M Run
The World 10K Bangalore (known as the TCS World 10K for sponsorship reasons by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)) is an annual 10 kilometres road running competition which takes place in Bangalore, India.
The competition was first held in 2008 and usually takes place in late May.
The first three editions were sponsored by Sunfeast (ITC Limited).

5. Google gives $500,000 to promote child safety in India
Internet giant Google today threw its weight behind three NGOs in India, announcing support in the form of USD 500,000 in grants, to promote child safety in India.
With the grant, Google aims to further the cause with smart applications of technology and help scale up initiatives aimed at child safety programmes and campaigns.
Grants have been made through Google.Org to Childline India Foundation that provides a free phone service, 1098, for children in need of help or protection, Bachpan Bachao Andolan that protects and rescues children from slavery, trafficking, and forced labour, and Tulir which works to prevent and heal child sexual abuse across India.
“Technology can play a significant role in transforming lives, and we are delighted to provide support to three of India’s non—profit organisations (NGOs) such as Childline India Foundation, Bachpan Bachao Andolan and Tulir which have been doing a phenomenal work,” Google India and South—East Asia Managing Director Rajan Anandan said in a statement.
Globally, Google has donated over $100 million in grants, $1 billion on technology resources, and 80,000 hours of Googler volunteering to NGOs in 2014 around the world.

6. Official website of 10th World Hindi Conference launched
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj  launched the official website of 10th World Hindi Conference at Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan in New Delhi. It can be visited at www.vishwahindisammelan.gov.in. 
The logo for the Conference was also chosen by the Logo Selection Committee after a logo design competition was organized by the Ministry of External Affairs. Khyati Gupta from Banglore was awarded the prize money of 50000 rupees by the External Affairs Minister.
The 10th World Hindi Conference (WHC) will be held from 10 September to 12 September 2015 at Lal Parade Ground in Bhopal. The conference will be hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs in partnership with state government of Madhya Pradesh. The main theme of the Conference is Hindi Jagat: Vistar avm sambhavnai.
Apart from this, to fulfill various aspects of the conference, three committees on Advisory, Management and Programme have been constituted. Sushma Swaraj will be the Chairperson of the Advisory and Programme Committees, while Gen. (Retd) Dr V K Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs, will be the Chairman of the Management Committee.

7. Former Army Brigadier David Granger sworn-in as eighth President of Guyana
Former Army Brigadier David Granger  was sworn in as the eighth President of Guyana.  He was sworn-in as the President after his A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) party-led coalition won the national elections.
In the national elections held on 11 May 2015, his coalition APNU – Alliance for Change (AFC) defeated the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP). With this, it ended the 23 year old grip on power of Indo-Guyanese PPP.
The APNU-AFC coalition riding high on the campaign to reduce high youth unemployment and violent crime as well as crack down on piracy won 207200 votes. The PPP, on the other hand, got 202674 votes.
Further, Granger's coalition is expected to have three-four seat majority in the 65-member Parliament.

8. Novak Djokovic won 4th Rome Masters Tennis title
Novak Djokovic of Serbia  won his fourth Rome Masters Tennis title. In the summit clash, Djokovic defeated Roger Federer of Switzerland 6-4, 6-3. 
With this win, Djokovic earned prize money of 628100 US dollar and 1000 Emirates ATP Rankings points.
This was the fifth title of the season for Djokovic, the other titles are the Australian Open (defeated Andy Murray), the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells (defeated Roger Federer), the Miami Open (defeated Andy Murray) and the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters (defeated Tomas Berdych).
Besides, Maria Sharapova of Russia defeated Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 to win the women's title. It was the 35th WTA Tour title of Sharapova's career.
