AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the fifth time today along with a 28-member Cabinet.
At the event attended by thousands of supporters, a galaxy of film stars and a smattering of industrialists, Governor K Rosaiah administered the oath of office to Jayalalithaa who returns after being acquitted of corruption charges earlier this month.
The ministers who were then sworn in two batches recited the oath in chorus, bringing the 25-minute ceremony to a close.
The event was held at the centenary auditorium of the University of Madras, where Jayalalithaa had been sworn in last in May 2011 at a grand ceremony attended by Narendra Modi, who was then the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Also present were a host of industrialists, diplomats and political allies, including Vijayakanth of the DMDK; AIADMK has now broken ties with the party.
2. A Vellayan stepped aside as Chairman of Murugappa Group Corporate Board
A Vellayan was stepped aside from the chairmanship of the Murugappa Group Corporate Board. He also relinquished the post of Chairman in the Coromandel International Ltd. and the EID Parry India Ltd.
Vellayan took this decision in the backdrop of an order issued on 21 May 2015 by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) linking A Vellayan to trades by two individuals in shares of Sabero Organics Gujarat Ltd., a company that was acquired by Coromandel International Ltd. (subsidiary of Murugappa Group) in May 2011
3. Shuttler Saina Nehwal of India ranked No.1 in single rankings released by BWF
Badminton World Federation (BWF) released the latest single’s rankings. The ranking was topped by Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal. She was followed by Li Xuerui of China.
Saina Nehwal regained the top position ahead of the Australian Open. In April 2015, she secured the number one position for the first time. But she subsequently slipped from the top spot.
She has won two titles in 2015 -India Open Super series and India Grand Prix Gold, and also reached the final of the prestigious All England Open, which is a Super Series Premier event.
Meanwhile, Nehwal's compatriot and two-time World Championship bronze medalist PV Sindhu dropped to number 12.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) gave its nod for appointing G Mohan Kumar as the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
The decision was taken by the committee in a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mohan Kumar will be in the office for a period of two years and succeeds Radha Krishna Mathur who completes his tenure on 28 May 2015.
Kumar, a 1979 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre, is presently Secretary of the Department of Defence Production in the MoD.
Earlier, he worked as the Secretary in the Ministries of Steel and Commerce and Industry and Additional and Special Secretary in the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation among others.
5. India reached 6th position in terms of scientific publications
Department of Science and Technology said that India reached sixth position in terms of scientific publications. Earlier, India stood at the tenth position in terms of publishing scientific research papers in different journals.
Secretary, Department of Science and Technology Ashutosh Sharma gave this information at a function organised by Research Council UK (RCUK) in New Delhi to mark the progress between United Kingdom and India in the field of scientific research.
At present, India and UK are collaborating in various sectors in fields like nuclear energy, solar energy, monsoon and public health, rejuvenation of Ganga River and climate change. In 2011, the scientific collaboration between India and UK was just few million pounds, which has risen to 150 million pounds, at present.

6. SAIL, ArcelorMittal ink MoU to set up steel plant in India
ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steelmaker, and state-run Steel Authority of India (SAIL) have signed an MoU for setting up an auto-grade steel unit in the country.
“The MoU is the first step of a process to establish a JV between the two companies. The proposed JV will construct a state-of-the-art cold rolling mill and other downstream finishing facilities in India that will offer technologically advanced steel products to India’s rapidly growing automotive sector,” a joint statement issued by the firms
The MoU with ArcelorMittal will pave the way for a new chapter in the indigenous production of high-quality automotive steel in India. It will also aid a broader effort by SAIL to help fulfil the high-quality steel requirements of the rapidly growing infrastructure and manufacturing sectors in India
There is a huge gap to bridge between India’s demand for auto-grade steel and its existing domestic production capacity, leading to a surge in imports of inputs. A large part of India’s total 9.32 mt steel imports accounts for automotive steel. The two steelmakers’ coming together is aimed at plugging the gaps.

Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will lead a business delegation to Algeria from May 26 to June 1, 2015, a FICCI statement said on Saturday.
“India has been given a status of Guest of Honour country for the Algiers International Trade Fair, being held from May 26 to June 1, 2015 in Algeria. Last year, this status was given to the US,” the statement from Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce of Industry (FICCI)
FICCI with the support of ministry of commerce and industry, and Indian embassy in Algeria are organising the India Pavilion at the 48th Algiers International Trade Fair.
Ms. Sitharaman will also inaugurate the India Pavilion jointly with the Prime Minister of Algeria on May 26, 2015.
The Indian delegation comprises more than 70 leading companies representing various sectors like auto, building & construction, food & beverages, agriculture equipment, auto components, tyres and engineering goods.
