1. Nirbhay Sharma sworn-in as new Governor of Mizoram
Lt General (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma was today sworn-in as the Governor of Mizoram at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan here. Justice T Vaiphei, judge of the Gauhati High Court, administered the oath of office to General Sharma.
State Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, his cabinet colleagues, legislators from both the ruling Congress and the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF), senior officials of the state government and the Army attended the gubernatorial swearing-in ceremony.
General Sharma, the former Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, was transferred and appointed as Mizoram Governor on May 12 by President Pranab Mukherjee, replacing West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi who took additional charge of Mizoram. He is the eighth Governor of Mizoram after the then state Governor Vakkom Purushothaman resigned on July 12 last year in protest against being transferred to Nagaland.

2. SBI gets Rajnish Kumar as fourth MD
The country's largest lender State Bank of India said the government has appointed Rajnish Kumar as the Managing Director - Compliance and Risk department.
The post was lying vacant since November last year after the then MD A Krishna Kumar retired.
"In my new assignment, I will be looking after a new department - compliance and risk, which has been created for the first time by the bank. My focus will be on technology upgradation and providing skill development," he said. Prior to this, Kumar was working as managing director of SBI Capital Market (SBI Caps).
Four Deputy Managing Directors of SBI group had appeared for interviews for one post of managing director of SBI in the month of December last year.

3. DD Kisan, India’s first television channel dedicated to farmers launched by PM Narendra Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the first anniversary of NDA government launched an exclusive Doordarshan's 24x7 channel DD Kisan, dedicated to the farmers.
On the launch of the channel Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged farmers to increase the average foodgrain yield from the current two tonnes per hectare to three tonnes per hectare and called for making the "tehsil" the unit of agricultural planning and development.
The PM also asserted that if the country has to move forward, villages must progress, and if villages are to progress, then it is essential for agriculture to progress. DD Kisan channel is directed towards achieving this feat. It will inform farmers about changes in weather and global markets so that farmers can plan ahead.
On the launch of DD Kisan, PM Modi also called for re-engaging rural youth in agriculture. He said DD Kisan channel can also highlight the efforts of progressive farmers, so that their innovations can be replicated across the country.
Some facts about DD Kisan
DD Kisan is an Indian agriculture 24-hour television channel, which is owned by Doordarshan and was actually started on March 23, 2015.
The channel has been dedicated to agriculture and allied sectors, which disseminates real-time inputs to farmers on new farming techniques, water conservation and organic farming among other information.
It should be noted that, the public broadcaster "Prasar Bharti" which currently runs the "Krishi Darshan" program on Doordarshan is one of the longest running programmes on DD National. It was launched on January 26, 1967.

4. Trevor Bayliss appointed as head coach of England Cricket Team
Trevor Bayliss was appointed as the head coach of England cricket team . With this appointment, 52-year-old Bayliss became the first Australian to coach England.
The New South Wales coach succeeded Peter Moores and will take up the new job in June 2015. Moores second spell ended in first week of May 2015 after he was sacked.
Bayliss has led Sri Lankan team from 2007 to 2011 and later in 2014 took temporary charge of Australia for their Twenty20 series in South Africa. He has coached Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Sydney Sixers in Australia's Big Bash League.
Before becoming a coach, he played for New South Wales between 1985 and 1997.

5. Forbes released the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women 2015 list
Forbes released the list of World’s 100 Most Powerful Women of 2015 showing women who impacted businesses, media, philanthropy, politics and more.
All 100 women have the power to shape the world, but 18 stand out this year as entrepreneurs, the women who built their status from scratch.
Four Indians have been named in Forbes magazine’s 12th annual list of World’s 100 most powerful women. They are
Arundhati Bhattacharya: First woman (and youngest) Chairperson of State Bank of India (SBI) was placed at 30th position.
Chanda Kochhar: Managing Director (MD) and CEO of India’s largest private sector lender ICICI Bank was placed at 35th position.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw: Founder, Chairman and MD of Biocon Limited was placed at 85th position.
Shobhana Bhartia: Chairperson and Editorial Director of the Hindustan Times Group was placed at 93rd position. It should be noted she has appeared on the list for the first time.
Apart from them, two women of Indian-origin PepsiCo Chief Indra Nooyi (15th position) and Cisco Chief Technology and Strategy Officer Padmasree Warrior (84th position) also have appeared in the list.
Top 10 powerful women: German Chancellor Angela Merkel (1st), Hillary Clinton (2nd), Melinda Gates (3rd), US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen (3th), GM CEO Mary Barra (5th), IMF Chief Christine Lagarde (6th), Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff (7th), Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg (8th), YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki (9th) and US First Lady Michelle Obama (10th).

6. India and Vietnam signed Joint Vision Statement on Defence Cooperation 2015-2020
India and Vietnam  signed a Joint Vision Statement on Defence Cooperation for the period 2015-2020 in New Delhi. It was signed by the Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and the Vietnamese Minister for National Defence General Phung Quang Thanh.
The statement is an outcome of delegation level talks held in New Delhi to discuss cooperation on maritime security.
Besides the Joint statement, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Coast Guards of the two countries was also signed in the presence of the two Defence Ministers.
Earlier, in October 2014, India announced 100 million US dollar line of credit to Vietnam during the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung visit to the country to enable Vietnam acquire new naval vessels from India.
The above initiatives of the Union Government are part of its Act East policy, aimed at deepening its strategic and economic relations with Asian countries and curtailing growing China’s influence in the region.

7. NASSCOM launches cybersecurity task force
National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) and Data Security Council of India have launched NASSCOM Cyber Security Task Force. 
According to a statement from the trade body, the task force aims to build India as a global hub for providing cyber security solutions, developing cyber security R&D plan and develop a skilled workforce of cyber security experts. 
The task force members will include industry leaders across IT, BPM and internet, heads of user organizations like banks and telcos as well as representatives from the government and academia. 

8.  Himachal Pradesh set up satellite tracking system to check forest fire
State forest department of Himachal Pradesh has set up the satellite tracking system to check the forest fire incidents during summer season. The system was launched with an aim to preserve the precious forest fire incidents during summer season.
In case of any fire incident, the forest officials will immediately receive SMS on their mobiles.
Apart from this, the department also launched an awareness campaign across the state to protect forests from fire in which local people will be involved to detect the fire incidents.
Forest cover of the Himachal Pradesh is one of the biggest wealth and identification of the hill state which faces forest fire as one of the biggest challenge and threat during the summer season. This satellite tracking system may help the state to keep on a vigil on the fire incidents in its forests.
Besides, 700 participatory committees had been constituted, more than 90 water tanks constructed and nearly 100 watch towers had been erected so that the people could easily detect fire incidents.
