1. India, Bangladesh make history with land swap
On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s maiden visit to Dhaka, India and Bangladesh on Saturday sealed a historic agreement that will settle a 41-year-old land boundary dispute through exchange of territories, removing a major irritant in bilateral ties.
The two sides exchanged documents regarding the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) that was passed unanimously by the Parliament last month in the presence of Mr. Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina besides West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
In a major boost to connectivity between India and Bangladesh, two bus services were flagged off today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee here.
The bus services – Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala and Dhaka-Shillong-Guwahati – will link West Bengal to three North Eastern states of India via Bangaldeshi capital Dhaka.
During the flag off ceremony on the first day of Modi’s visit, he handed over a symbolic ticket of the Agartala-Dhaka-Kolkata service to Hasina and she handed over a symbolic ticket of Dhaka-Shillong-Guwahati service to her Indian counterpart. Banerjee gave Hasina a symbolic ticket of the Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala service.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today presented a hand-woven tapestry, that showed “Kalpavriksh tree & the Kamadhenu cow”, to his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina.
2. Infosys appoints Seshasayee as Chairman
Infosys Limited announced that the Company’s Board have approved the appointment of R. Seshasayee as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board with immediate effect. K.V. Kamath will be stepping down from his position as Chairman of the Board and as an Independent Director of the Company, consequent to his nomination as President of the BRICS New Development Bank.
3. Chandrababu Naidu performs bhoomi pooja for new capital city of Amaravati
The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, performed the Bhoomi Pooja for the new capital city at Tallayapalem in Guntur district about 280 km .
The auspicious event, where a symbolic stone (Boduraayi) was laid, was performed by priests in the presence of Cabinet colleagues and special invitees at 8.49 am.
Tallayapalem is located on the banks of river Krishna, about 15 km from Vijayawada.
The State Government is in the process of pooling 34,000 acres of land for the capital city spread over 29 revenue villages.
The AP Capital Region Development Authority is overseeing the land pooling process for the capital city to be named after historic Buddhist site Amaravati.
4. Doctors from Texas State of US successfully perform world’s first skull-scalp transplant
Doctors from Texas State of United States have done the world’s first partial skull and scalp transplant from a human donor. This rare medical feat was achieved by team of Doctors from Houston Methodist Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center which opens new frontier in transplant surgery The recipient patient was Jim Boysen, a 55-year-old software developer who had suffered a large head wound from cancer treatment In a 15-hour transplant operation about a dozen doctors and 40 other health workers were involved. In this operation, Boysen was given a cap-shaped, 25-by-25 centimeter (10-by-10-inch) skull graft, and a 38-centimeter (15-inch)-wide scalp graft.
5.Union Government launches Jal Kranti Abhiyan
Union Government launched nationwide Jal Kranti Abhiyan. It was launched by Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejunivetion Uma Bharti in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Jal Kranti Abhiyan aims at turning one water scared village in each district of the country into water surplus village water through a holistic and integrated approach by adopting conservation and management techniques. Under the nationwide campaign a village with acute water scarcity on a pilot project will be selected as Jal Gram. In this identified village a comprehensive integrated development plan will be framed and several water conservation activities will be launched.
6. Ratan Tata buys stake in Kaaryah
Tata Sons chairman emeritus Ratan Tata has acquired a stake in Kaaryah, a fashion portal for women's wear, making it his latest personal investment in technology ventures. However, the company declined to disclose the quantum and value of the stake, which Tata Group's former chief has invested in his personal capacity.
Tata has made personal investments in homegrown e-commerce players like Snapdeal, Urban Ladder, Bluestone and Cardekho.com. He has also invested in mobile commerce firm Paytm and wind energy startup Altaeros. In April this year, he invested in Chinese handset maker Xiaomi.
7. Veteran AIADMK leader Sulochana Sampath passes away

India’s first green police station was inaugurated on the occasion of World Environment Day at Maurice Nagar in north Delhi. It was inaugurated by Delhi Police Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi. The police station has various provisions for preservation and safety of the environment. Students of Delhi University along with police officials had worked on the renovation of this police station to make it unique.
