Dear Readers,  These days South Sudan in news which has been rocked by violence that has claimed hundreds of lives.

Indian government started operation to evacuate Indian citizens from South Sudan .VK Singh leads operation 'Sankat Mochan' to evacuate Indians from South Sudan.

India has been closely monitoring developments in South Sudan, which is witnessing heavy fighting between former rebels and government soldiers in several parts of the city. A task force has been set up for the purpose.

According to the ministry, there are around 600 Indians in South Sudan, of them 450 are in Juba and nearly 150 are outside the capital.
According to official sources, so far nearly 300 Indians have registered with the Indian embassy for evacuation.

South Sudan became an independent state on 9 July 2011, following a referendum that passed with 98.83% of the vote. It is a United Nations member state,]a member state of the African Union, of the East African Community, and of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development. In July 2012, South Sudan signed the Geneva Conventions. South Sudan has suffered internal conflict since its independence; as of 2016 it has the second highest score on the Fragile States Index (formerly the Failed States Index).
