1. Long range nuclear-capable subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay testfired

1. Long range nuclear-capable subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay was testfired from the launch complex 3 of the Integrated Missile Test Range in Balasore, Odisha. 
2. The test was conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). After blasting off from launch pad, the missile took a unique trajectory in its entire path to the target. However the test was an utter failure.


2. Daman and Diu becomes first cashless region in the country

1. The tiny Union Territory along the Arabian Sea coast, Daman and Diu, has become the first cashless region of the country.
2. Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir has commended the UT administration for taking the initiative to make Daman and Diu as the first cashless region of the country.
3. At least 190 teams of trained volunteers visited over 25,000 households spread across the UT to educate their members about the benefits of cashless transactions


3. Airtel Payments Bank appoints Dhiraj Sharda as CDO

1. Airtel Payments Bank today said it has appointed Dhiraj Sharda as its Chief Digital Officer.
2. In his new role, Sharda will be responsible for product development, digital delivery and development of digital marketing platforms for Airtel Payments Bank. He will report to Shashi Arora, MD and CEO of Airtel Payments Bank.
3. Airtel Payments Bank is the first payments bank in India to go live. A fully digital and paperless bank, it will allow customers to access services over their mobile phones, including all feature/basic mobile phones.


4. AIBA grants full membership to Boxing Federation of India

 1. International Boxing Association (AIBA) has unanimously granted full membership to the recently-formed Boxing Federation of India (BFI). With this, India’s return to the international boxing fold is complete after it was suspended for the past four years over the issue of administrative logjam.


5. Veteran Malayalam actor Jagannatha Varma passes away Veteran 
1. Malayalam actor Jagannatha Varma passed away in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He was 77. He had an impressive presence in Malayalam cinema for over four decades. He was among the most familiar faces on screen in Malayalam cinema. 
2. To concentrate on his acting career, he had quit his job as a Superintendent of Police. In a career spanning three-and-a-half decades, he donned key roles in hundreds of films. 


6. Former Bihar Minister S P Tarun passes away 

1. Former Bihar Education Minister and veteran Congress leader Surendra Prasad Tarun passed away after prolonged illness. He was 88. He is a two-time former MLA from Atri in Gaya and Hilsa in Nalanda district. 
2. He had served as the Minister of State (MoS) for education in the Congress government of Bindeshwari Dubey from 1985-1988.


7. World’s oldest water found

1. Scientists have discovered the oldest water samples on Earth that date back to about two billion years and may hold clues to life forms living far beneath the surface of Mars or other alien planets.
2. Researchers have known that water exists far below the groundwater that has been isolated from the water table — unseen and untouched for billions of years.


8. Researchers develop first Chikungunya Vaccine

1. Researchers from United States have developed the first vaccine for Chikungunya fever made from an insect-specific Eilat virus. The newly-developed vaccine does not have any effect on people, which makes it safe and effective for humans. 
2. Its clinical trials on mice and non-human primates show that it quickly produces a strong immune defence and completely protects them from disease when exposed to the chikungunya virus. 


9. India ranks 4th in 2016 Global Wind Power Installed Capacity Index

1. India ranked 4th in the Global Wind Power Installed Capacity index with cumulative installed wind power generation capacity of 25,088 MW in 2015. 
2. The index was released was released as part Global Wind Report: Annual Market, flagship publication of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).
3. The index was topped by China, followed by US and Germany with cumulative installed wind power generation capacity of 145362 MW,
