1. Cooperative banks can’t accept deposits under PMGKY: Government 

1. Government has notified that Co-operative Banks are not authorised to accept deposits under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Deposit Scheme (PMGKDS). The deposits under this scheme can be accepted any banks to which the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (10 of 1949) applies. The scheme allows assessees to disclose previously unaccounted and undeclared income under its ambit. 
2. The PMGKDS permits voluntary declarations of previously undisclosed income with an effective tax rate of 50% and requires assessees to deposit a further 25% of such wealth into a four-year interest-free deposit. The scheme was launched on 17 December 2016 and will remain open for declarations upto 31 March 2017.


2. India’s biggest aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya becomes first warship to have ATM onboard 

1. Indian Navy’s largest warship of the, INS Vikramditya became the first warship to be equipped with its own dedicated ATM (Automated Teller Machine). The ATM onboard of the ship will be provided by India’s largest public sector bank State Bank of India (SBI). 
2. The services will be on the satellite link and will cater to over two thousand naval personnel deployed on the aircraft carrier. A currency chest will also be provided to keep running the ATM. 
3. This ATM facility will ease out cash problems of a large floating population of the warship as they run out of money during long period of deployment of the carrier. INS Vikramaditya is a modified Kiev-class aircraft carrier purchased from Russia.


3. Bihar Government launches Nasha Mukt campaign to make state addidction-free 

1. Bihar government launched Nasha Mukt campaign to make the state addidction-free with formation of over 11 thousand km long human chain across the state. 
2. It is claimed to be world’s largest human chain and broke previous record of 1050km human chain formed in Bangladesh. The campaign will herald a new era in the state as no one will be permitted to use intoxicating substance and tobacco products. 


4. Government constitutes negotiation committee on Mahanadi and its Tributaries

The Union Ministry of Water Resources has constituted negotiations committee to assess availability and utilisation of waters of Mahanadi and its tributaries to resolve disputes over sharing of river waters among five states. These five states are Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The committee will be chaired by member (water planning and projects) of the Central Water Commission (CWC). It will have 11 other members comprising representatives from the state governments.


5. Hong Kong withdraws visa-free facility for Indians 

1. Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China has withdrawn the visa-free facility for Indians who will have to complete a pre-arrival registration. Henceforth, Indian Nationals will require Pre-arrival Registration. 
2. Thus, Indian nationals must successfully complete pre-arrival registration online before they can visit or transit Hong Kong if seeking to enter the region during transit.


6. ISKCON’s Govardhan eco village wins UNWTO Award for Innovation 

1. ISKCON’s Govardhan eco village located in Wada taluka in Thane district (Maharashtra) was conferred the UNWTO Award for Innovation in the category of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO). 
2. The award was presented to the village for taking innovative measures of ’sustainable tourism’ in country at the annual UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Awards for Excellence and Innovation in Tourism held at Madrid in Spain. This is for the first time India has won such recognition from the UN in the NGO sector.


7. China commissions 31st stealth warship

1. China has commissioned its 31st stealth warship as it got its battle group under its first aircraft carrier ready amid tensions with the U.S. and other nations over its assertiveness in the disputed South China Sea.
2. The People’s Liberation Army Navy has commissioned its 31st Type—056 class corvette, marking a new addition to the world’s largest fleet of modern corvettes.
3. Russia has the world’s largest corvette group that consists of about 80 vessels, but most of them were built in the 1980s and 1990s and cannot compete with the Type—056 in terms of technology and equipment.
