1. UCO Bank launches Suvidha prepaid card
1. State-run UCO Bank has launched its ‘UCO Suvidha (e) Prepaid Card’.
2. The card was launched earlier this month by R.K. Takkar, MD & CEO, UCO Bank, and Executive Directors, Charan Singh and G. Subramania Iyer.
3. According to a release by the bank, the prepaid card is “a hassle-free” alternative to cash, which can be used for cash withdrawals, purchase at Points of Sale (POS) or, over the Internet.
4. The bank’s own customers as well as walk-in customers can avail of the card from all branches of the bank.
5. The prepaid card offers the flexibility to load/ reload amount as and when required and is targeted at corporates, government departments, institutions and other organisations.

1. NASA astronaut Jeanette Epps is set to become the first African-American crew member aboard the International Space Station (ISS) when she flies to the orbital post in May next year.
2. NASA assigned veteran Andrew Feustel and Epps to missions aboard the ISS in 2018.
3. Feustel will launch in March 2018 for his first long-duration mission, serving as a flight engineer on Expedition 55 and later as commander of Expedition 56.
4. Epps will join Feustel as a flight engineer on Expedition 56 and remain on board for Expedition 57.

Veteran actor Om Puri, who gave countless memorable performances in movies of diverse genres, died at his residence here this morning after a massive heart attack.He was 66.From Bollywood to Hollywood, from independent to art films, the noted actor, known for his versatility, gave several acclaimed performances.
2. Puri featured in several Indian, Pakistani, British and Hollywood mainstream commercial films.
3. He was awarded the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian award, in 1990.
1. The 16th meeting of the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC) was held in New Delhi. It was chaired by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
2. It was attended by heads of all financial sector regulators as its members. It reviewed the major issues and challenges facing the economy.
6. Government constitutes Injeti Srinivas Committee to frame National Sports Code
1. The Union Sports Ministry has constituted committee to frame comprehensive National Sports Development Code across sports disciplines.
2. It will be headed by Injeti Srinivas, Sports Secretary. The committee will study the existing sports governance frame work, issues relating to sports governance in the country, recent developments related to sports governance. It will also study court judgments and international best practices and make recommendations on bringing out a comprehensive code across sports disciplines.
7. UN declares 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development
1. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has declared the year 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
2. The declaration recalls the potential of tourism sector to advance the universal 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
1. Noted Manipur-based historian, litterateur and scholar Gangmumei Kamei passed away in Imphal following protracted illness. He was 77. Kamei was currently a member of the North Eastern Council (NEC). Earlier, he had served as a minister in Manipur on two occasions.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment, in its notification dated January 4, 2017, has made it mandatory to furnish the proof of Aadhaar number to avail pension and other benefits for its the existing members and pensioners under the Employees Pension Scheme (EPS), 1995. Those who have enrolled for an Aadhaar number, but are yet to receive the same, can provide the Aadhaar enrolment ID.
2. A member or a pensioner who has not enroled for the Aadhaar number yet is required to enrol for the same by January 31, 2017 at their nearest enrolment centres. In case of non-availabliltiy of enrolment centres, the EPFO is required to create enrolment facilities at convenient locations.
