What is IBPS PO?

IBPS PO 2026 Notification: Eligibility Criteria

1. Nationality/Citizenship

A candidate must be either:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia) or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates falling under categories (ii) to (v) above must possess an Eligibility Certificate issued by the Government of India.

3. Educational Qualification (as on 21.07.2026)

  • Candidates with a CGPA/OGPA must convert it into a percentage as per their university’s own formula and be ready to submit documentary proof at the interview stage.
  • Basic computer knowledge is required.

4. Economically Weaker Section (EWS)

Candidates whose family’s gross annual income is below ₹8 lakh and who do not own specified categories of land/property are eligible under EWS. The EWS certificate must be valid for FY 2025-26.

Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)

Under Section 34 of “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016,” candidates with benchmark disabilities (not less than 40% disability) are eligible for reservation under the following categories:

  • Visual Impairment (VI): Blindness or Low Vision
  • Hearing Impaired (HI): Deaf or Hard of Hearing

The Main exam now features 170 objective questions (previously 145), with greater weightage given to the General/Economy/Banking Awareness and Data Analysis & Interpretation sections, while English Language marks and duration have been reduced.

The Descriptive Paper may be evaluated by an automated scoring mechanism that assesses writing proficiency — a new development compared to earlier CRP cycles.
